
The police have arrested a man wanted in connection with the kidnapping and assault of an on-duty Delhi Excise Department staffer, officials said on Tuesday. The accused, Sahab Singh (34), was nabbed from the Dhaula Kuan area, they said.
A case was registered at the Shalimar Bagh police station under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) on February 23. In the complaint, it was alleged that Sahab Singh and his associates allegedly assaulted and forcibly abducted the Excise Department staffer while he was performing official duties on the intervening night of February 22 and 23.
The police said the victim was allegedly taken in a car to Bahalgarh in Haryana, where he was further assaulted. During investigation, three persons were arrested, while Sahab Singh remained absconding.
On Monday, Constable Naveen Kumar got a tip-off regarding the movement of the accused from Dhaula Kuan towards Khatu Shyam. Acting on the input, the police laid a trap near the Dhaula Kuan bus stand and arrested the accused around 10:30 am, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Aditya Gautam.
During investigation, the police found that Sahab Singh played an active role in assaulting and abducting the complainant, along with his associates. The victim was allegedly taken to a liquor warehouse in Bahalgarh where the assault continued, Gautam mentioned.
The police further stated that Sahab Singh is a habitual offender with involvement in five criminal cases registered in Delhi and Haryana. His criminal record reportedly includes cases related to human trafficking, rape, kidnapping, assault, and excise violations. The accused was produced before a court which sent him to judicial custody, the DCP said.
