‘Warisan contradicts itself on Sabah grant’

Kota Kinabalu: Community activist Aksyah Nasrah claims Parliament records on the Sabah Special Grant contradict Warisan Deputy President Datuk Darell Leiking’s criticism of the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) government.

“If the same instrument was accepted when Warisan governed Sabah, why is it considered wrong when implemented by the GRS? This contradiction in stance clearly shows a double standard that only misleads the people,” he said in a statement.

Aksyah said a July 1 written parliamentary reply from the Prime Minister cum Finance Minister shows the Warisan administration in 2019 also agreed in writing to accept interim payments and a gazette mechanism, the same arrangement it later criticised the GRS for accepting.

He said the Warisan administration secured only RM53.4 million a year through Budget 2020, while the GRS government under Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor raised the interim payment projection from RM125.6 million to RM300 million, then RM600 million, before it reached RM1.5 billion a year.

Aksyah said the increase reflects the GRS’ ability to negotiate better outcomes with the Federal Government, and urged Darell and Warisan to stop distorting facts for political publicity.
