Kota Kinabalu: Parti Warisan grassroots are still intact amid an exodus of assemblymen, says Datuk Azis Jamman.

The party’s information chief said those who left with the 11 assemblymen did not put a major dent in the party’s core support.

“They (the assemblymen who left) are making claims that a large number of members quit because they want to prove to their new political masters that they are still relevant with many supporters,” he said in a statement on Monday (March 6).

Azis said only a few members left with the assemblymen to seek personal opportunities with the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) government led by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.

“They are just picking big numbers and claiming that (Warisan) members were following them.

“Warisan is still intact. The assemblymen may have taken some of our members (but) it has not affected our party’s grassroots,” he said, adding that those who stuck with Warisan fully understood the party’s struggle that does not prioritise position and money.

“Warisan remains focused on Sabah rights and socio-economic development of the state and its people,” he said.

The party was consistent in these efforts both as the state government and as the opposition, he added.

He said people knew what to expect from the leadership style of Hajiji, who is now president of Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan Rakyat).

Azis said Gagasan Rakyat only supported Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim when the King called for the formation of the unity government.

“They left Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to support Anwar, the same way they abandoned Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad in 2020,” Azis said.

“Believe it or not, I am sure they (Gagasan Rakyat and GRS) will do it again (switch support) if there is further political turmoil at federal level,” he added.
