Hurricane Melissa made landfall in Jamaica on Tuesday afternoon as a Category 5 storm with sustained winds of 295 km/h — the strongest hurricane to hit the island in 174 years. Kingston’s streets were flooded, and power outages affected nearly a third of the country. Officials warn of a four-metre storm surge and severe damage as Melissa moves towards eastern Cuba, leaving at least seven people dead across the Caribbean.
