KUDAT: The State Government is resolute in addressing the water woes faced by Pulau Banggi residents through a new water treatment plant on the island.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said he will obtain a report from the Sabah Water Department on the cost of the facility to determine the required allocation for its implementation.

“God willing, I will provide the allocation,” Hajiji said during the Hari Raya Aidilfitri Open House organised by the Banggi and Tanjung Kapor divisions of Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan Rakyat) at Dewan Tun Mustapha, Sunday.

The Chief Minister said the State Government always prioritises resolving issues faced by the people, including water supply and other essential basic needs, as they are crucial for the community’s well-being.

In Pulau Banggi, the Chief Minister said he is also giving attention to problems faced by residents in Tanjung Kapor and other areas throughout the State.

During the event, Hajiji highlighted Kudat’s significance as the birthplace of the co-father of Sabah’s independence, Tun Datu Mustapha Datu Harun.

“I also hope the Hari Raya Aidilfitri Open House can be used as best as possible to strengthen the bonds among us, not only with Muslims but also with non-Muslims,” he said.

Hajiji, who is also the President of Gagasan Rakyat, reminded party members and the people of Kudat to ensure that the party and its allies in the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) remain strong and can defend the welfare of the people in the area.

He dismissed allegations made by the opposition against the current GRS-led government as mere slander aimed at undermining the stability of the State Government and urged leaders at all levels to focus on their duties to serve the people’s interests.

During the event, Hajiji also handed over keys of SMJ Rumah Mesra to eligible recipients, State Government aid of RM540,000 to 27 heads of households who are fire victims of Kampung Tanjong Kapor Hujung, and a government contribution of RM300,000 to the Basel Mission Church in Malaysia for the construction of a church museum in Kudat.
