Wayne Rooney drops verdict on Marcus Rashford’s second chance at Man United

  • Wayne Rooney has stated that Marcus Rashford remains the only player capable of breaking his all-time goalscoring record of 253 goals for Manchester United, provided the forward demonstrates the right hunger and desire.
  • The 28-year-old England international looks set for a second act at Old Trafford and is currently featuring in Michael Carrick’s pre-season preparations after Barcelona opted against making his loan move permanent.
  • Rashford, who currently sits 15th in United’s historical goalscoring chart with 138 strikes, last featured for the club in December 2024 after falling out of favour under then-manager Ruben Amorim prior to loan spells at Aston Villa and Barcelona.
  • Speaking on his new podcast Stick to United, Rooney advised Rashford to rebuild his relationship with the Old Trafford supporters by drastically improving his body language, work rate, and overall focus.
  • Rooney emphasised that he wants to see the Manchester-born attacker succeed at Manchester United rather than elsewhere, adding that Rashford must surround himself with trusted people and work tirelessly to get his career back on track.
