KOTA BHARU - Pas Selangor has urged that the state's Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman be appointed from within the party's leadership without delay, to sharpen preparations ahead of the 16th general election (GE16).
Pas Selangor delegate Mohamed Sukri Omar said the appointment can no longer be dragged out, given that PN needs to swiftly organise its efforts to topple the Pakatan Harapan (PH) state government.
"If the PN chairman is still being cosy with the Menteri Besar, this is not the time for that. The PN chairman must be appointed from Pas to steer the party to victory in Selangor.
"I am confident we have many qualified candidates for PN Selangor chairman. Pas Selangor commissioner Datuk Dr Yunus Hairi is among the qualified candidates," he said.
He was speaking while tabling a motion and debating the president's policy speech at the 72nd Pas Annual Muktamar at the Pusat Tarbiah Islamiah Kelantan (PUTIK) in Pengkalan Chepa here on Friday.
He said Pas Selangor is targeting at least 36 State Legislative Assembly (DUN) seats and 12 parliamentary seats in the state, driven by a reinforced ummah unity agenda.
He added Pas Selangor already has a leadership line-up drawn from professional and religious backgrounds, whom he described as ready to take over the state administration.
Pas' preparations, he said, should not be limited to winning Selangor and that the party needs to be ready to govern Malaysia as a whole, including through the formation of a shadow cabinet.
He said Pas's administrative approach in Selangor would be built on Islam, integrity, professionalism, technology and justice for all citizens regardless of religion and culture.
"Selangor is a wealthy state, but that wealth must be felt by the people as a whole. Issues of urban poverty, flooding, rubbish and the eroding position of Malays in urban areas need solutions.
"Given trust and a mandate, we will administer 1,000 times better than Pakatan Harapan," he said.
