Today I watched over the television, the swearing-in of Sultan Ibrahim Iskandar, the sultan of Johor as Malaysia’s 17th Agong (king). I was glad that as part of the ceremony, prayers were made for the peace, harmony and progress of the nation as a whole. In my own heart, I too whispered a prayer for our new Agong. I prayed that God would grant him all the wisdom and courage needed in the days ahead.
I am sure that when we heard the news that the sultan of Johor would be the next Agong come the end of January 2024, many of us were excited and hopeful for many things. We are very aware that Sultan Ibrahim Iskandar is an outspoken, no-nonsense person, as well as a hands-on leader. In his interview with The New Straits Times Singapore last month, the sultan shared his objective to ensure political stability in Malaysia. He also emphasized that he would not merely be a ‘puppet king’. As such, we can be certain that our new king will make his presence felt in Kuala Lumpur, both for the government and others.
We, the rakyat are looking forward to Agong’s contribution to steering our nation to greater harmony among the races, political stability in our government as well as progress in our economy. I believe our new king and our Prime Minister will be able to work together to get our nation back on the right track and cause Malaysia to soar again.
Therefore, let us as a nation of great diversity continue to daily bless our king, our Prime Minister as well as all our appointed leaders. Let us all look forward with hope and not be weighed down by the many negative things that happen around us. Surely, those who steal and rob will ultimately face the consequences. Surely, in time evil intentions will be exposed and judged.
To our 16th Agong, Al Sultan Abdullah and Tunku Azizah, thank you for your leadership as well as all you have done for the good of this nation. May God continue to bless you in all your endeavours.
