THE government is considering possible intervention measures, including cloud seeding, as parts of the country face prolonged dry and hot conditions, with a final decision expected after Cabinet deliberations next week.

Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Arthur Joseph Kurup said a comprehensive weather forecast report will first be tabled before the Cabinet to determine the necessity of further action.

“Next week, I intend to present a weather forecast report on the current dry and hot conditions to the Cabinet. Further decisions will depend on the discussions at that time.

“If the forecast indicates justification for interventions such as cloud seeding, we will provide updates from time to time,” he said when met at the 100th anniversary celebration of the Forestry Training Institute in Kepong on Thursday.

The minister added that the Malaysian Meteorological Department has been instructed to intensify monitoring efforts and issue more frequent weather updates to support preparedness among key agencies.

“Several northern states are experiencing dry and hot weather. Therefore, METMalaysia has been directed to continuously issue important reports and forecasts to assist other agencies, including the Department of Environment (DOE), the Ministry of Health, and the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA), in making more thorough preparations,” he said.

Arthur noted that weather forecasts would play a crucial role in determining whether measures such as cloud seeding are required to mitigate the impact of extreme conditions on the public and the environment. - April 2, 2026
