BEAUFORT: As Merdeka Day approaches, the Malaysian national flag or Jalur Gemilang is seen everywhere.
But the same cannot be said of Weston where the flags are nowhere to be seen. A resident who only wished to be identified as Yusof expressed his surprise over the missing flags.
While admitting that the flags could be seen in schools and mosques, Weston town itself seems to be an exception where not even a single flag could be seen.
“Maybe the authorities find Weston not important and therefore did not allocate any flag.
“They should not forget that Weston were where the Japanese and englishlanded,” he pointed out.
He expressed disappointment that unlike other towns or even suburban areas, Weston seems to have been neglected when it comes to distribution of flags.
“Even in villages like Lingkungan and Lubok, you can see flags flying but not in Weston.
“Or may be they are expecting people in Weston to buy their own flags?
“Or may be Weston is exempted from celebrating Merdeka?” he asked sarcastically.
