KOTA MARUDU: Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Malaysia (KDM) Deputy President Datuk Wetrom Bahanda confirmed he will contest the Matunggong state seat in the upcoming 17th State Election (PRN17).
He said his decision to “move” from the Bandau seat to contest in his hometown of Matunggong was made in response to requests from the grassroots there.
Wetrom said that while he continued serving as the Assemblyman for Bandau, he has also frequently visited Matunggong in his capacity as Member of Parliament (MP) for Kota Marudu.
“It won’t be an easy task, but I am confident that the people of Matunggong also want change, just like the people of Kota Marudu showed during the 15th General Election (GE15) in 2022,” he said.
He said this when met after launching the PRN17 election machinery for the Matunggong, Bandau, and Tandek state constituencies here, recently.
Wetrom had previously won the Bandau state seat during the 16th State Election (PRN16) and made headlines when he defeated the then-President of Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS), Datuk Dr Maximus Ongkili, in the Kota Marudu parliamentary seat during GE15.
Meanwhile, Wetrom said the party has confirmed 36 seats it will contest, with several others still under consideration.
“As of now, we have confirmed 36 (state seats), while a few more are still ‘KIV’ (kept in view). Previously, I mentioned around 20 seats, but we’ve received many requests from other areas. What’s certain is that we will be going solo,” he said.
