Cameron Young has recently emerged as arguably the third-best golfer in the world behind Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy.

He won the Wyndham Championship last August and then performed better than any of his American teammates at the Ryder Cup.

The 29-year-old has since won two more tournaments in 2026, the Players Championship and the Cadillac Championship.

Only Matt Fitzpatrick, who has won three events this year, can claim to have had a better season than Young.

Former major champion Rich Beem has now revealed what Young’s former caddie told him about his meteoric rise.

What makes Cameron Young so good? Former caddie explains to Rich Beem

Cameron Young always had a reputation as a potentially world-class golfer, but his results failed to match his talent.

However, the American has turned a corner in the last 12 months, reaching the number three position in the Official World Golf Ranking.

2002 PGA Champion Rich Beem has explained what Young’s former caddie said was the reason for his improvement.

“From what I understand, he used to run hotter out there and could not let some things go, according to one of his former caddies,” Beem explained on Sky Sports.

“He has always had all the talent in the world, and you could see it from the moment that he stepped on the tour.

“It is just harnessing all that and thinking, ‘I am going to make a mistake out here. It’s the way the game goes.’

“Once you can allow yourself to make a mistake or two, because you know it’s how it goes, you are going to make a host of birdies.

“Just getting that mindset would have done wonders for his game. I’m sure he would say something completely different, but that is what I see more than anything else.”

Young’s mentality can no longer be questioned after winning two of the biggest events on the PGA Tour in 2026.

The next step in his journey is to win a major championship, which he could even achieve at this week’s PGA Championship at Aronimink.
