MANILA, Philippines — In the 2026 season, Alex Eala has participated in 21 Women's Tennis Association (WTA) Tour events, including the four major Grand Slam tournaments .
The four Grand Slam tournaments are the Wimbledon for grass surface, French Open for clay surface, Australian Open for cushioned acrylic hard court and the US Open for acrylic hard court.
The Filipina tennis ace was asked by former world No. 1 Maria Sharapova on her podcast what her favorite Grand Slam tournament is
Eala answered: “Wimbledon is my favorite Slam, and growing up I always just loved the tradition, and I find it very elegant. The all-white against the green grass, and things were very charming and so appealing to me.”
The 21-year-old Filipina reached the round of 16 at Wimbledon after stunning defending champion Iga Swiatek in the third round. She eventually fell to Jasmine Paolini in the round of 16.
Sharapova agreed that playing on the Wimbledon Centre Court feels different. She was the first Russian woman to win the singles title at Wimbledon in 2004.
Eala made a Wimbledon debut in 2025, making her the first Filipina to play in the main draw of a Grand Slam event.
