Cam Young got the better of Matt Fitzpatrick on the 18th hole at TPC Sawgrass on Sunday, as he won The Players Championship by one shot over the Englishman.
Young played some really solid golf during the final round at The Players on Sunday, and he deserves special praise for how he played the final two holes at TPC Sawgrass.
The American’s birdie-par finish proved to be too much for Fitzpatrick in the end, as the Englishman finished par-bogey to lose out by one.
Young is now a two-time winner on the PGA Tour and his victory over Fitzpatrick at The Players Championship was a big statement to the
As Cam Young tapped in from close range to win The Players, it was clear to see how much the victory meant to him.

The drive that Young hit on the 18th hole at TPC Sawgrass proved that he has what it takes to win the very biggest tournaments when playing under the most intense pressure.
The fans went crazy when the 28-year-old New Yorker bombed his drive 375 yards down the fairway on 18.
What Matt Fitzpatrick asked Cam Young when the fans were booing him at TPC Sawgrass
Young received partisan support from the American fans throughout the entire round on Sunday at Sawgrass.
And by the time the Players Champion reached the final hole, the Sawgrass crowd was making things very difficult for Fitzpatrick.
It was like the Ryder Cup all over again, as the Englishman received loud boos and jeers from the American fans.
When speaking to The Golf Channel after his victory in Ponte Vedra Beach, Young was asked what he made of the atmosphere on the 18th tee on Sunday.

“It’s certainly a positive,“ Young admitted.
“Anytime you can take some support from the fans out there, that’s great.
“I mean, it was to the point that Matt looked at me and said, ‘Cam, do you hate me too’? And I was like, ‘no, we’re friends, we’re on the same TGL team, like, we’re good.
“It was very partisan out there, which was surprising, but great to be on the correct side of it.“
Classy Matt Fitzpatrick would’ve gained fans at TPC Sawgrass
Fitzpatrick took the banter incredibly well and suggested that the fan behavior on the 18th at Sawgrass was child’s play in comparison to what he witnessed at Bethpage Black in September.
In fact, the 31-year-old displayed a fantastic attitude immediately after losing out by one shot to Young on Sunday.
Inside, he would have been bitterly disappointed.
However, the positive attitude he showed proved to me that he will go on and win some of the biggest tournaments in the game in the future.
Fitzpatrick performed extremely well at TPC Sawgrass during the final round of The Players, but he was just unlucky that Young played even better.
It was great to see two close friends going blow for blow down the stretch at The Players. It’s just unfortunate that one man had to lose in the end, because they both deserved to win, given their performances on Sunday.
