Matt Fitzpatrick and Cam Young battled it out for The Players Championship after Ludvig Aberg’s collapse on the back nine at TPC Sawgrass on Sunday.

In what was a terrific final round at The Players, Young and Fitzpatrick emerged as the two main contenders for the title.

As the day went on, TPC Sawgrass became more and more challenging, with the greens getting firmer and faster, and the rough longer and thicker than it has ever been before.

Young and his good friend Fitzpatrick were the last men left standing at The Players Championship.

The American and the Englishman played the best golf at TPC Sawgrass on Sunday as those around them on the leaderboard faltered.

Young raved about Fitzpatrick after winning The Players Championship and the feeling was mutual.

Fitzpatrick spoke very highly of Young after he finished his final round at TPC Sawgrass.

What Matt Fitzpatrick said to Cam Young’s family after losing out at The Players

The grace that Fitzpatrick showed in defeat on Sunday at Sawgrass should be an inspiration for everyone else on the PGA Tour.

He congratulated Young after the American holed the winning putt and he did it with a genuine smile on his face.

The Englishman then made his way over to Young’s family who were watching on from just behind the 18th green.

Fitzpatrick approached Young’s father and congratulated him after the 28-year-old’s performance.

Young’s mother then responded to Fitzpatrick, saying: You played awesome buddy.

It was a class act from Fitzpatrick and there are plenty of golfers on the PGA Tour who could learn a thing or two from the Englishman.

What Matt Fitzpatrick told his psychologist the night before final round at The Players

After the final round at TPC Sawgrass, Fitzpatrick responded when asked by reporters if he is happy with where his game is at right now.

Yeah, yeah. I think the big thing is I believe in my own ability, the Englishman said.

I feel like I’ve been doing a ton of good work with Mark Blackburn and just really, really seen so many positive signs over the last 12 months, really.

I feel like — I was saying last night to my psychologist, I feel like I’m very good at getting myself into position between 15 and 5.

I don’t feel like — I don’t feel like I get in enough positions between 5 and 1st. I feel like if I can do that, obviously it’s easier said than done, then I believe I will win more.

It’s obviously easier said than done, but I back myself down the stretch, and I feel like if I can do that, then it’ll be good things.

After how Matt Fitzpatrick performed during the final round of The Players Championship, he will undoubtedly be confident of recording more top-5 finishes now going forward.
