- New government guidance has been launched featuring a downloadable checklist to help households ‘Be Ready’ for short-term disruptions, including power outages and water supply failures.
- The checklist includes storing enough water and perishable food for three days, including non-perishable food that doesn’t need cooking, such as ready-to-eat tinned meat, fruit or vegetables.
- Households are also advised to have hygiene items such as hand sanitiser and wet wipes, and provisions to stay light and warm such as a torch and spare batteries as well as blankets, sleeping bags and warm clothing.
- The public should also keep a portable power bank for charging mobile phones, and a battery or wind-up radio to get updates during a power cut.
- Finally, households should keep a first aid kit with essential medicines, money and important documents, and if needed, baby formula or pet products such as dog or cat food.
