The whole of Malaysia is still buzzing with excitement even after the Bahrain Grand Prix concluded at the Sepang International Circuit (SIC) over the weekend.
Among one of them is Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, who witnessed the race take place for himself and even tried introducing his significant other to the sport, only to be met with a humourous response.
‘Why the excitement about zoom?’
Speaking at the Khazanah Megatrends Forum 2026 yesterday (Oct 5), Anwar shared how he tried to persuade his wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, to accompany him to the race.

“I had jokingly described Formula One (F1) as an ‘endless, expensive sport’ before asking her to go with me.
She said, ‘My dear, you can hardly see them? They zoom, zoom (so fast).’ Why the excitement about zoom?’
“And you know, we survive by not arguing with our wives,” he quipped, drawing laughter from the audience.
The F1 race, which returned to Malaysian soil for the first time in nine years, was memorable for a variety of reasons, such as the larger-than-expected crowds, the classic Sepang torrential rain, and Red-Bull’s Max Verstappen claiming the trophy.

But aside from the roars and cheers from the crowd, there was also plenty to complain about during the race, with many slamming the poor traffic control and exorbitant food prices.
