Scottie Scheffler has the career Grand Slam in his sights at the US Open this week.
Scheffler, who has been at Shinnecock Hills all week working hard on his game, is the strong favorite to win the US Open.
However, the 29-year-old has been nowhere near his best this season, and he has been hugely frustrated with his game at times.
Scottie Scheffler is still sitting top of the FedEx Cup points list. He has a win and seven top-5 finishes to his name in 12 starts in 2026.
He also hasn’t finished outside the top-25 in any event since August 2024. However, those who have watched him this season will know that something isn’t quite right with his game.
Scheffler will be hoping to return to the winners’ circle at Shinnecock Hills this week by lifting the US Open trophy, and if he does, he will join the ultra-exclusive Grand Slam club.
What Scottie Scheffler shot for nine holes at Shinnecock before the US Open
On Tuesday, Scheffler admitted his golf has been ‘dull’ so far in 2026.
Because of the standards he has set, his season is looked at through a completely different lens to anyone else’s.
One thing we do know is that Scheffler is capable of catching fire at any moment.
Perhaps he just needs to hole a long putt, or hole a bunker shot. He simply hasn’t done those kinds of things when he has needed them most this season.
That said, he will just need to produce extremely solid golf at Shinnecock this week, if he is going to contend.

Scheffler played a nine-hole practice round on Tuesday and was very much up and down.
Golf journalist Jamie Kennedy followed the world number one around, and shared details of his round on X.
Scheffler shot two over par for nine holes after making two birdies, four bogeys and three pars.
Scottie Scheffler’s long game looks slightly off
Scheffler hit three of seven fairways during his nine-hole practice round.
The 29-year-old only hit four greens in regulation as well.
He quite clearly won’t be happy with his ball-striking although it must be said, the wind was howling at Shinnecock Hills on Tuesday.
Scottie Scheffler will be working hard on the range at Shinnecock ahead of round one of the US Open, in order to iron out any creases he may have in his swing.
However, I can’t help but feel like Scheffler knows his game isn’t where it needs to be right now.
The world number one may be the favorite to win the tournament, but I just can’t see it happening this week.
