What we know after hijacking alert on Air India flight

  • Air India flight AI2030 travelling from Frankfurt to Delhi was diverted to Jaipur after the pilot transmitted international squawk code 7500, signalling a suspected hijacking or unlawful interference.
  • The Boeing 787-9 aircraft landed safely in Jaipur at 9.45am and was immediately moved to an isolation bay, where security personnel and the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad thoroughly searched the aircraft and baggage.
  • All passengers and crew members were safely evacuated to an emergency holding area, whilst both pilots were de-boarded under security protocols and India's National Security Guard was placed on standby.
  • The aircraft was subsequently cleared by authorities to resume its flight to Delhi, with officials confirming there was no real threat and stating an investigation is underway into what triggered the alert.
  • This scare follows a similar incident a day prior, when a Corendon Airlines flight in Germany accidentally transmitted the same hijacking signal due to a cockpit radio malfunction.
