- The Met Office’s chief meteorologist has said that parts of the UK will continue to experience the heatwave “for a little longer”.
- A red warning for extreme heat in London and parts of south eastern England has been extended until 9pm on Friday.
- Andy Page warned of daytime temperatures potentially exceeding 36C, possibly reaching 37C in some locations.
- He said: “Significant disruption to daily life is likely and the public should take every effort to adapt their daily routines to cope with these levels of heat, which up to now have been extremely rare for the UK.”
- There should be a climbdown in temperatures by Saturday, with potential highs of around 32C, followed by a return to more average temperatures next week.
