With constant twists and turns intwined with superpowers and sci-fi elements, the final season of Stranger Things definitely deserves all the hype it’s getting. In season 4 of the show, we met the main antagonist, Henry Creel aka Vecna, played by the one and the only Jamie Campbell Bower.

If you think he looks familiar, then you are not wrong. Born in London on November 22, 1988, Bower is the son of music manager Anne Elizabeth Roseberry and David Bower who works for the Gibson Guitar Corporation. His full name is James Metcalfe Campbell Bower.

Bower started his creative pursuits from a young age, and used to play the violin as a child. As a student, he was also a former member of the National Youth Music Theatre and the National Youth Theatre.

Bower got his first acting gig when his friend Laura Michelle Kelly recommended him to her agent. The recommendation led to them both starring in the 2007 Tim Burton movie, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. After his debut role, he starred in a few other movies like RocknRolla (2008), Winter in Wartime (2008), and in a series called The Prisoner (2009).

Bower’s big break came with the role of vampire Caius Volturi in The Twilight Saga: New Moon and both Twilight: Breaking Dawn 1 & 2. Though his role was small, he gained significant attention from the movies. He went on to star in the 2010 film Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1 as a young Gellert Grindelwald, and later reprised his role in the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 (2011) movie Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald (2018). In 2011, he appeared as King Arthur in the TV series Camelot.

Bower has also appeared in many music videos including “Young (Belane)” by The Xcerts and “Never Let Me Go” by Florence + The Machine. His resume also includes an appearance in The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones (2013), as well as in the West End musical Bend It Like Beckham in June 2015 where he showed off his on-stage acting skills as Joe. He also appeared in the TNT original series Will (2017).

In 2019, Bower was cast in the prequel series to Game of Thrones, Bloodmoon (also known as The Long Night), but was later denied the opportunity when HBO decided to axe the show. During this time, he starred in the movie Six Days of Sistine. Then, in 2022, he appeared in Netflix’s hit Stranger Things, playing the legendary antagonist Vecna in a role that has turned him into a mainstream face.

Bower has also worked as a voice actor, voicing Skiff in the Thomas & Friends franchise.

Music Career

Bower started his music career as a drummer in a band named K. He later became the lead singer of the band The Darling Buds, but unfortunately, they never put out an album and finally split in 2015. After that, Bower became the frontman and lead singer for the band Counterfeit, which released its first studio album in 2017 with a US tour to follow. But in late 2020, the band announced their split on Instagram. In recent years, Bower has released a few solo songs including “I Am,” “Paralysed,” “Run On,” and more.

Modelling Career

In the early years of his career, Bower worked as a part-time model in London with Select Model Management. Since then, the actor has endorsed and posed for a number of fashion labels, from Dolce & Gabbana and Dior to Hugo Boss and Fendi.

Jamie’s dating history has always garnered the spotlight. In 2010, Bower started dating actress Bonnie Wright, whom he met on the set of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1. In April 2011, they got engaged; however, in 2012, they amicably parted ways. After the end of his relationship, Bower began dating actress Lily Collins. Their on-and-off relationship lasted about six years, but in 2018, the couple broke up for good. He is currently dating influencer Elena Taber.

Struggles and health issues

Bower’s journey to fame didn’t come without struggles. The Brit actor has a mild form of dyslexia, and he has also been open about his mental health issues and alcoholism.
