Liverpool fans are leaning towards Dominik Szoboszlai over Mohamed Salah to take a last-minute penalty in the Champions League final.

The Reds are pushing for a place in the final, having been matched up with Galatasaray in the round of 16.

Following Friday’s draw, Rousing The Kop put the question to fans on TalkingPoints: would they rather see Szoboszlai or Salah step up with everything on the line?

The margin was razor-thin, but with the No. 8 having taken on some penalty duties this season, there is a growing sense that he should be trusted with such a massive moment.

Some would argue Szoboszlai has overtaken Salah as Liverpool’s key man this season, and with the Egyptian away at AFCON over Christmas, the Hungarian stepped in to show what he can do from the spot.

He did find the net once but also rattled one off the crossbar. Even so, RTK readers seem ready to see him take on a more permanent role, especially in a moment as big as a Champions League final.

The poll could not have been closer, with Szoboszlai earning 51% of the votes while Salah picked up 49%.

The question put to readers on RTK’s Facebook page saw a third name brought into discussion: Alexis Mac Allister. Though he has only taken one penalty for Liverpool – scoring against Manchester City in March 2024 – several fans backed him for such a high-pressure moment.

Salah will likely be handed that responsibility, especially if it marks his final moment as a Liverpool player. And despite fans giving Szoboszlai their backing, there is still plenty of support behind Salah taking on that role.
