A former Indian star has explained why he does not want Kuldeep Yadav to play against Zimbabwe in India’s must-win T20 World Cup Super 8 match.

India enter their Super 8 clash needing a commanding victory after a heavy defeat to South Africa left their net run rate in trouble, and their semi-final hopes hanging by a thread.

The Zimbabwe fixture in Chennai is now a critical test as they seek to keep their campaign alive. But not everyone believes India’s balance should shift by bringing back a wrist spinner for this particular contest.

Kris Srikkanth on Kuldeep Yadav versus Zimbabwe

In comments shared on the Cheeky Cheeka podcast, Kris Srikkanth said: “Arshdeep is bowling well, Bumrah is bowling brilliantly, well supported by Hardik and Axar Patel.

He added: “Why should they bring in Kuldeep Yadav? There is no chance. It will be a batting track in Chennai.”

Srikkanth’s view reflects a belief that India’s current pace-led attack, anchored by Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh, is better suited to the conditions at MA Chidambaram Stadium.

He argued that the pitch in Chennai might not demand the additional spin option that Kuldeep Yadav would offer, prioritising seamers instead in a must-win scenario.

Kris Srikkanth suggests changes to India’s batting order

Kris Srikkanth also weighed in on potential changes to the top order, stating: “Sanju Samson will come in for Rinku Singh and Axar Patel for Washington Sundar. Sanju will open, and Ishan Kishan will come at number three.”

The former India opener’s suggestions indicate a desire for greater batting intent in a match where net run rate could prove decisive.

With the team needing a convincing victory, alterations to both bowling strategy and batting structure remain firmly in the spotlight.

Whether the management follows Kris Srikkanth’s advice remains to be seen, but his stance is clear. In a must-win encounter, he believes continuity in the bowling unit and sharper choices at the top of the order offer India the best route forward.
