Zohran Mamdani drew attention online after arriving for Eid al-Adha prayers, wearing an Arsenal-themed kurta that quickly went viral on social media.
The New York City Mayor wore the custom jersey-style kurta at the Bronx’s Macombs Dam Park, where he joined worshippers for Eid prayers.
The football-inspired outfit immediately sparked buzz among fans online. A long-time supporter of Arsenal F.C. and the city’s first Muslim mayor, Mamdani also tied the message of Eid al-Adha to his political vision while sharing photos from the gathering on X.
“Today as we honour Prophet Ibrahim, Eid al-Adha reminds us that sacrifice is not a burden,” Mamdani wrote. “It is an opportunity to see ourselves as part of something larger and to extend a hand to those who need it most.”
