Umno veteran Tan Sri Shahrir Samad said the loss should be shared along with former prime minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
Shahrir questioned the need for Ismail Sabri to produce a video clip to urge Zahid to resign.
“Wow! You made a video. Was it necessary? In GE15, Zahid was the president and Ismail Sabri was the prime minister.
“When you win you become the PM and when you lose it’s someone else’s fault. Ismail Sabri was the prime minister who dissolved the parliament after tabling the 2023 Budget.
“BN lost and he placed full responsibility on Zahid as the Umno president. Take some share of it,” he said in the statement.
For the record, BN had suffered a big loss in GE15, and the loss has been put on Zahid's shoulder.
Shahrir said Ismail Sabri has to own a ‘share’ of BN’s performance.
“In GE14, Datuk Seri Najib Razak was the prime minister and Umno president. In GE15, Zahid was the Umno president and Ismail Sabri was the prime minister.
“Why must the Umno president be the only ‘big hearted’ one taking in the responsibility of the party’s loss? Let’s steady ourselves, we are left with only 30,” he said in the statement.
