There are numerous and not quite simple reasons why many teenagers prefer to enter a labor market instead of continuing their education at college. Financial pressure is one of the most frequent ones. To individuals with low-income families, going to the university is considered as a privilege inaccessible to them. Higher costs involved in tuition fees, accommodation and inability to earn money during the study years may render studying to be unrealistic. These adolescents might feel the necessity of getting a job at an early age so they can provide services to their families, settle payments or become the breadwinners of the household. A job in these circumstances will become a necessity and not a choice.
The other major cause is the disinterest in academic learning. Traditional classroom learning is not attractive to some of the teenagers. They do not like theoretical education or study, rather, they like getting their hands wet or prefer a vocational training. Such people might be more interested in working in such professions as mechanics, owners of restaurants, cosmetology or other skilled trades. To them, a university degree does not matter because real life and hands on experience is better. Others have their career objectives well defined and are of the view that taking up employment at an early age comes with an advantage; that is they will have an early start in the career they choose.
Also, a student may be unable to reach any higher educational institution because of incompetence in education or because education system negatively affects students. Every student does not pass the grades needed to join the universities in areas that are very competitive in academics. This may cause frustration and lack of self esteem whereby they get discouraged and look for alternatives. Not only this, there is an increasing lack of faith in the university education and graduation, when the graduates find it very difficult to attain employment in their area of study. The fact that the degree does not lead to a successful career makes some teenagers act up a bit earlier to gain experience and skills.
Moreover, the social media and the contemporary success stories have cast their impression on how teenagers value education and success too. Most of the well-known influencers, businessmen or celebrities are quite rich and known without going to college or even finishing it. Depictions of these examples can make young individuals think that they need not be in possession of academic qualifications to succeed but they should be creative, passionate, and take real-life steps. Consequently, there are teenagers who are motivated to do something outside the box, including creating a business or being a content developer.To sum up, economic need, personal interests, academic failures, and the evolution of social values of teenagers incline them to join the labor market rather than proceed to university. Although university is a significant option to a large number, some feel that they can receive more independence, experience, and a short way to the desired destination by working instead of attending college.
To conclude, it can be said that the choice, made by teenagers to start working rather than attend university, depends on various factors all connected to each other like financial reasons, an urge to have some practical experience, education issues, and social changes in society. This tendency shows the wider shift towards the perception of the education, work, and personal success among younger generations. As much as higher education can open doors, it is no longer regarded as the sole way that people can gain a satisfying or successful life. Others think that direct hiring can provide them with more rapid financial security, more precise career expectations or simply more self-fulfillment. Victory cannot be found only on a university track, and every person has his own path, because people should accept and know that all people do not lead the same path as a university but they can have the success on other ways. As far as teenagers make choices concerning their own lives, skills and interests, working instead of going to the university may still cause a fruitful and enjoyable life.
