The USMNT has advanced to the knockout stages of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Despite suffering a 3-2 loss at the hands of Turkey, the USMNT finished at the top of Group D with 6 points.

With the hosts advancing to the Round of 32, it’s only natural for more fans to purchase the official jerseys of the USMNT. However, there’s apparently a shortage of Team USA jerseys.

US retailers reportedly running out of USMNT jerseys

According to a detailed report by The Athletic, Team USA fans may not get their hands on the team’s official jersey soon.

“American soccer fans looking to purchase US men’s national team jerseys as the team prepares for the World Cup knockout stage may soon be running short of options with supplies running low among US retailers,” The Athletic revealed.

“Some of the most popular online stores for USMNT merchandise, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Fanatics, Soccer.com, and the official US Soccer store, are all showing limited availability of the jerseys, made by Nike, particularly for the popular red-striped home shirt,” the report added.

If USMNT advances further in the competition, it could become a major problem for US retailers. But who is to blame for this shortage? One retail executive shared their thoughts on it.

Nike is to blame for the USMNT’s jersey shortage

For the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Nike is the official jersey partner of Team USA. It means that Nike is responsible for ensuring that the stock remains full.

However, one retail executive claims that Nike has consistently been ignoring the rise in demand.

“[Nike has] been told by countless retailers you need to make more jerseys way before these events happen and they just don’t do it. They just ignore it,” the executive said.

Making more jerseys in advance is the easiest solution for this problem, but it seems like Nike doesn’t care about the retailers’ demand. This certainly puts the company in a bad light.
