Will Arnett shuts down Jason Bateman question about Amy Poehler marriage

Will Arnett vehemently refused to answer a question about his ex-wife, Amy Poehler, during a recent episode of his Smartless podcast.

Arnett and his co-hosts, Jason Bateman and Sean Hayes, discussed their bathroom habits during Monday’s episode of their podcast. After Bateman said that he “definitely farted in front” of Hayes, the Black Rabbit star added: “But Willie doesn’t. He doesn’t”

“So then, Will, did you ever poo in front of Amy?” Bateman continued, referring to Poehler, who was married to Arnett for 13 years.

“Are you looking for clicks?” Arnett clapped back. “Are you trying to get something that we can click around?”

Although Bateman said that he “always forgets” that people are listening to the podcast, he continued to ask the question.

“Wait, but hang on. You were married to her, had two kids. You guys never went to the bathroom in front of each other?” the Ozark alum added.

“I’m sorry. The question is, did I poo in front of Amy? And you’re saying that I don’t have manners? What are you talking about?” Arnett asked.

When Bateman claimed that he was asking “a good question,” Arnett disagreed. “I refuse to answer it. I refuse to answer that. It’s none of your f***ing business,” he said.

Arnett then said that his ex-wife was “going to be outraged” by Bateman’s comments and questions on the podcast.

Is This Thing On? star Arnett and Parks and Recreation alum Poehler got married in 2003 and announced their separation in 2012, with their divorce finalized in 2016. They share two sons, Archie, 17, and Abel, 15. Arnett also has a six-year-old son, Alexander, with his girlfriend, Alessandra Brawn.

In her 2014 memoir, Yes, Please, Poehler opened up about why she avoids publicly sharing any details about her marriage or split.

“I don't want to talk about my divorce because it is too sad and too personal,” the Saturday Night Live alum wrote, adding that she “doesn’t like people knowing my s***.”

Still, she praised the relationship she had with Arnett, writing: “I am proud of how my ex-husband, Will, and I have been taking care of our children; I am beyond grateful he is their father; and I don't think a [nearly] ten-year marriage constitutes failure. That being said, getting a divorce really sucks.”

In April 2025, Poehler appeared on an episode of Smartless, where Arnett gushed about their friendship.

“I’m really, really lucky to have her as a partner in this way,” he said. “There aren’t many people I speak to more than I speak to her, which is weird, you know what I mean? But it’s great.”

He continued: “She’s the person I go to, like, ‘Hey, I’m thinking about doing this.’ Whether it’s life or work, I really seek her counsel because it’s important to me, because I trust her. She’s awesome.”
