An Indian vlogger travelled across the ocean and flew over 5,000 km to express his love to an Indonesian woman, but the outcome may not have been what he had hoped for.
Despite arriving in Indonesia with the intention of proposing, the man was politely rejected.
Before the incident, the two had been conversing online as “pen pals” for months. Their regular chats led the man to develop feelings, believing the connection was genuine. Hoping to turn their online friendship into something more, the determined vlogger bought a ticket and boarded a flight.
Upon arrival, he received a warm welcome from the Indonesian woman. Wasting no time, he expressed his feelings by presenting a proposal ring and asking, “Will you marry me?” Initially confused by the situation and hindered by a language barrier, the woman relied on a translation app to understand his message.
Once she understood what was happening, she politely declined, simply saying “No,” as shown in a viral video on X.
However, the rejection wasn’t personal
The woman belongs to the Baduy tribe, an indigenous group in Indonesia known for its strict marital customs. According to the vlogger, her decision was rooted in cultural tradition.
While women from the Baduy tribe may be open to friendships with outsiders, many still choose life partners from within their community. The woman, Rumsyah, is also a popular content creator in Indonesia and explained that women from the Baduy tribe often marry within their own community.
