Novak Djokovic will face Lorenzo Musetti in the Wimbledon semi-finals after his quarter-final opponent, Alex de Minaur, withdrew due to injury.
De Minaur, the boyfriend of British No 1 Katie Boulter, sustained the issue at the end of his fourth-round victory over Arthur Fils on Monday. The ninth seed played down the scare despite an initial shake of the head in the direction of his box on Court One, but shortly after midday on the day of his scheduled Centre Court clash with Djokovic, De Minaur pulled out of the Championships.
"Obviously not an announcement I wanted to make by any means," De Minaur said. "Yeah, I'm devastated but had to pull out due to a hip injury. I felt a loud crack during the last three points of my match against Fils and got a scan yesterday. It confirmed this was the injury and with high risk of making it worse if I was to step on court.
Djokovic will play Musetti on Friday after the Italian reached his first grand slam semi-final with a five-set win over Taylor Fritz. Defending champion Carlos Alcaraz faces Daniil Medvedev in the other men’s semi-final.
The women’s semi-finals are also set: the 2022 champion Elena Rybakina will face Barbora Krejcikova after thrashing Elina Svitolina in straight sets on Centre Court. Krejcikova, a former French Open champion, defeated Jelena Ostapenko, while the other semi-final will be between Jasmine Paolini and Donna Vekic, two first-time Wimbledon semi-finalists.

The Wimbledon semi-finals begin on Thursday with former champion Elena Rybakina looking a strong favourite to win the women’s singles title.
Rybakina, the champion two years ago, takes on former French Open winner Barbora Krejcikova on women’s semi-finals day on Centre Court, while Jasmine Paolini meets Donna Vekic in a meeting of two first-time Wimbledon semi-finalists.
Rybakina was in impressive form as she dismissed Elina Sviolina on Wednesday while Krejcikova also had a good win against the in-form Jelena Ostapenko. Krejcikova leads the head-to-head 2-0 against Rybakina but this will be their first clash on grass.
The other semi-final will produce an unexpected finalist as Paolini takes on Vekic. Paolini, who reached the French Open final last month, is the first Italian to play in the Wimbledon semi-finals while Vekic is through to her first grand slam final after 43 attempts.
The winners of the two semi-finals will contend for the Venus Rosewater Dish in Saturday’s final, starting at 2pm.

Jannik Sinner has revealed he was experiencing dizziness out on court during his five-set defeat to Daniil Medvedev in the Wimbledon quarter-finals on Tuesday.
The world No 1 was clearly under the weather from the start and, with the match at one set apiece, left the court at the start of the third set for more than 10 minutes.
A doctor checked his pulse and blood pressure and thought the Italian returned and continued to battle - forcing a deciding fifth set - Medvedev prevailed after four hours of action.

Alex de Minaur has pulled out of Wimbledon prior to his quarter-final against Novak Djokovic on Wednesday due to injury.
The Australian No 1, enjoying the best season of his career, sustained an injury on match point against Arthur Fils in his fourth-round match on Monday.
De Minaur’s persona immediately changed and despite playing down the hip injury in his press conference afterwards, his withdrawal was confirmed on Wednesday lunchtime.
Seven-time Wimbledon champion Djokovic therefore receives a walkover to Friday’s semi-finals, where he will play either Taylor Fritz or Lorenzo Musetti.

The Elena Rybakina experience rarely lasts long. Which is not to say you don’t get value for money when watching the Kazakh star – quite the opposite. She’s a whirling dervish of entertainment.
It’s just that, especially on grass, she has no interest in engaging in long rallies, preferring a “no guts, no glory”, “blink-and-you’ll-miss-her” approach to most points which means the winner and unforced error counts both ratchet up pretty quickly. When she’s more hit than miss – as she was en route to the Wimbledon title in 2022 and appears to be again this year – it’s tough to work out how to stop her.
Elina Svitolina tried in this quarter-final, she really did, but her opponent’s point-ending flashes of racquet were generally finding the lines rather than the grass beyond. Combined with a ferocious serve that pumped down six aces to reach a tournament-high total of 31 and saw her win 84 per cent of points on first serve, the result was a ruthless 6-3, 6-2 win in just 61 minutes.

Prior to his first Grand Slam quarter-final against Taylor Fritz on Wednesday at Wimbledon, Lorenzo Musetti was asked about the important topics at hand: his tattoos. The 22-year-old has three. The first is a heart with a tennis racket in the middle, the second is a ship’s anchor with “family” written on it and the third is a phrase shared with his coach: “Il meglio deve ancora venire.”
It translates: the best is yet to come.
Well, Musetti has saved the best tennis of his fledgling career for the grass of the All England Club and, to be specific, in the fifth set of a three-and-a-half hour marathon against American favourite Fritz. After four sets of back and forth, momentum swings aplenty, Musetti wiped out Fritz 6-1 in the final set with a stunning array of old-school, grass-court tennis.

Fritz with a wild forehand, lassoed into the tramlines 0-15.
Now the American hits long after a brief baseline rally, and it’s 0-30. A chance of a break here for Musetti!
This time it’s Musetti who overshoots on a forehand, however. 15-30.
Now the pair trade crosscourt forehands, until Fritz aims one up the line and goes long! 15-40.
Double break point for Musetti... And there’s the break, as Fritz goes long again!

Musetti moves to 30-0 before flicking a backhand long. 30-15.
30-30 now, as Musetti just can’t impose himself enough; he’s on the back foot for most of this point, and eventually he stretches to put a forehand in the net.
The pair move to deuce, and trade game points and break points – back and forth.
Eventually Musetti wrongfoots Fritz with a backhand winner down the line, for another advantage, but Fritz outguns the Italian to gain his own advantage!
And Musetti hooks a forehand wide! Fritz breaks to start the second set!

Per the BBC commentary: “A lady is not feeling too well, and she will need to be attended to, understandably, [before the match resumes].
“The medics have come out. She looked in some distress half-a-minute or so ago.”
It’s hot out there today.
Now play will resume, as a pair of medics have escorted the lady in question out of the court.

Same again, and it’s 30-0.
Musetti appears to have sent a topspin forehand long now, but he’ll challenge it... unsuccessfully.
40-0, triple set point to Fritz.
Ace down the T! Fritz seals the first set.

Some powerful hitting from Fritz, but he goes in a bit too hard on one forehand! He pushes it long. 30-0.
30-15 as Musetti is sent into the corner, where he can only slice a forehand long.
The pair trade points, and we move to 40-30.
Eventually Fritz shovels a backhand long, and Musetti holds to stay in this set.
Now Fritz will serve for the first frame.

But Musetti propels a forehand long, and Fritz holds. He’s one game away from taking the set.

Effective serve-and-volleying from Musetti, and the Italian forces a backhand error out of Fritz. 15-0.
This time it’s the American who forces an error from Musetti, though, pushing back the underdog. 15-15.
Powerful body serve, 30-15. But we move to 30-30, as Musetti slices a weak backhand into the net.
Fritz brings up another break point, but he sends a forehand long after some lovely baseline hitting from Musetti. Deuce.
Another forehand from Fritz goes long after a decent drop shot from his opponent. Advantage Musetti.
And the Italian holds serve with some more impressive net play.

A big Fritz serve has Musetti improvising with a strange forehand, and that shot plops into the net. 15-0.
More strong serving from Fritz, and he moves to 40-0.
And he seals a hold to love with an inside-out forehand winner into the corner.

Terrific lob from Fritz! It arches beautifully over Musetti’s head and even swerves in the air. 0-15.
0-30 now as Musetti errs, but he narrows the gap with a lovely step-in forehand! It’s a winner that bounces right on the inside tramline. 30-30.
30-40, break point as Musetti tries to put away a forehand at the net but slaps it into the tape! It was a trickier shot than it appeared, but he’ll be kicking himself anyway.
And there’s the break, as Musetti slices into the net!

Fritz with some fine serving to move to 15-0, before Musetti nets after a brief rally. 30-0.
This time, Fritz punches a volley long after a testing attempt at a passing shot from Musetti. 30-15.
Wonderful backhand winner down the line now, as Musetti makes it 30-30!
Great defence from Musetti, as he returns a powerful forehand, a smash, and gets to a drop shot... but eventually he puts his own overhead in the net. 40-30.
And another strong serve from Fritz has Musetti returning into the net. There’s the hold.

The Ukrainian has a devastated look on her face prior to break point, but Rybakina goes long for deuce!
