Day 11 at Wimbledon 2025 saw the semi-finals take place in the women’s draw, with Iga Swiatek booking her place in the final after a shock defeat for Aryna Sabalenka.

An outstanding Amanda Anisimova surged into her first grand-slam final as she knocked out the world No 1 on Centre Court, the American continuing a dream fortnight on the SW19 grass on the back of a runner-up finish at Queen’s. Sabalenka had looked short of her supreme best at times during the tournament, and she was visibly frustrated against Anisimova, in a match disrupted by two fainting fans in the crowd.

Meanwhile, Swiatek was in imperious form against Belinda Bencic, thrashing the Swiss to reach the final of Wimbledon for the first time. The five-time major winner needed just one hour and 12 minutes to beat Bencic, winning the second set 6-0 as the clay specialist showed off further improvements on grass.

Men’s semi-final action will follow on Friday, but Novak Djokovic is an injury doubt for his clash with Jannik Sinner after cancelling a practice on Thursday, while Carlos Alcaraz aims for a third straight Wimbledon final – and title – as he plays Taylor Fritz.

NEW: Novak Djokovic cancels practice session ahead of Jannik Sinner showdown at Wimbledon

Doubt surrounded the fitness of Novak Djokovic ahead of Friday’s blockbuster Wimbledon semi-final against Jannik Sinner.

The 38-year-old suffered an awkward fall very late on in his quarter-final victory over Flavio Cobolli on Wednesday.

He picked himself up to finish off the four-set victory but admitted afterwards he would likely not know the full effect until Thursday, and the signs did not appear positive when Djokovic first delayed and then cancelled his scheduled practice session at the All England Club.

Swiatek on Saturday’s final against Anisimova

18:24

Swiatek: “I don’t think I played Amanda on WTA, we played in juniors, and I mean, she can play amazing tennis and she loves fast surfaces ‘cause she has a flat game – and fast.

“So, you’ll have to be ready for fast shots, for her being proactive, but I’m just gonna kind of focus on myself, and I’ll prepare tactically tomorrow.

“We never played a match [on the WTA tour]... but I don’t have good memory, so...”

She’s right! No meetings between them at a pro level.

Swiatek is asked what music she listened to on her way onto court

18:20

,

Alex Pattle

Swiatek: “Same as every time, I like to keep my routines, so there’s some AC/DC, Guns ‘N’ Roses, Led Zeppelin, the Rolling Stones.

“Yeah, I mean, before the match [I like rock music]. Everybody’s asking me if I listen to that all the time, they keep buying me vinyl records and everything.

“And I’m like, ‘Guys, if I would listen to that all the time, I wouldn’t be able to sleep,’ so it’s just pre-match, just to pump myself up.

“But off the court, when I don’t compete, I’m more of a pop, jazzy, something, I don’t know...”

Swiatek speaks after reaching first Wimbledon final

18:17

,

Alex Pattle

Swiatek: “Honestly, I never even dreamt that it’s gonna be possible for me to play in the final.

“So, I’m just super excited and just proud of myself, and I don’t know... Tennis keeps surprising me.

“I thought I lived through everything, even though I’m young. I thought I’d experience everything on the court, but I didn’t experience playing well on grass, so that’s the first time, so I’m just enjoying it.

“Every opponent is different, so every match I also need to adjust my game, but for sure I feel like I improved my movement, and I’m serving really well.

“And I feel really confident, so I’m just going for it – and for sure it’s working, so I’ll keep doing that.”

GAME, SET AND MATCH! SWIATEK BOOKS FINAL SPOT

18:13

,

Alex Pattle

Bencic gets ahead at 15-0, but Swiatek turns the game around for 15-30.

The former world No 1 then drags a forehand into the net, 30-30.

But she brings up match point on the next go...

Saved! Credit to Bencic, who bravely takes on a forehand. Somehow, Swiatek gets it back, and the next shot, but Bencic eventually slams home a smash. Deuce.

A slight slip from Bencic, and she nets a backhand. Another match point for Swiatek...

TAKEN! A winner, past a stranded Bencic, and Swiatek reaches her first Wimbledon final!

She bagels Bencic in the second set, wow.

Bencic really struggling here

17:55

,

Alex Pattle

Swiatek races up to the net, then pings a forehand just inside the baseline. Bencic’s return effort is valiant, but the ball floats narrowly long. 0-15.

Bencic with a better serve this time, and Swiatek’s return is nowhere. 15-15. Same again! 30-15.

The pair exchange backhands on the next point, before Swiatek puts a forehand near Bencic in the corner. Although it’s close to her, it slightly wrongfoots her, and Bencic bows her head as she’s beaten. 30-30.

Swiatek’s next return fails to beat the net, though. 40-30.

Swiatek saves one game point by pushing Bencic into the corner, where the Swiss stretches and can’t get much on her backhand. Deuce.

Double fault, and Swiatek has a break point on advantage... Saved! Swiatek’s forehand in the corner is just wide.

But more poor serving gives Swiatek a break point again, which she takes with a powerful forehand in the corner. Again, Bencic just can’t get anything on it.

Deja vu

17:49

,

Alex Pattle

For the second set in a row, Swiatek rushes to 3-0.

It would take a tennis miracle for Bencic to pull this one back.

But stranger things have happened, it’s why we love this sport.

Swiatek 6-2, 3-0 Bencic*

Swiatek racing towards final

17:45

Poor Bencic, she can’t buy a hold right now.

She falls behind, 0-30.

Big forehand into the ad court, however, and she forces Swiatek into a lob that lands long.

Swiatek with her own big forehand, though, a piston shot into the corner for a winner. 15-40.

Two break points... but Swiatek frames a forehand return! 30-40.

But the second break point is converted! Swiatek is racing into the final at this rate.

*Swiatek 6-2, 2-0 Bencic

Bencic fails to convert two break points

17:39

,

Alex Pattle

A big moment for Bencic!

Can she put the first set behind her? Maybe, judging by her ability to bring up two break points here...

But with a pair of big serves, Swiatek is able to erase them both!

She then brings up advantage, where she apologises twice for failing to complete her serve. She was stopping mid-ball toss, perhaps looking right into the sun?

Once she does get going, she strikes a crouching forehand long. Deuce. But Bencic nets a backhand. Advantage Swiatek again.

A fist pump from Swiatek now, as she flings an inside-out forehand into the corner for a winner – and the hold.

It’s going from bad to worse for Bencic.

Swiatek with an easy hold and, just like that, she has a 4-1 lead in this first set.

Bencic follows suit, to keep herself going, but Swiatek eases to 30-0 on her next service game.

Great defence by Swiatek, but Bencic gets into the game at 30-15 with some lovely attacking play, setting up a forehand drive volley into the corner.

It’s a brief resistance, however, and Swiatek pulls ahead again to hold.

For the first time in this match, but third time today, there’s a pause in play due to a fan fainting!

After about eight minutes, play will finally resume.

Swiatek 3-0 Bencic*

Bencic gets in front at 0-15, but Swiatek quickly restores parity.

Now a pump of the fist from Swiatek, who moves ahead at 30-15.

40-15 up now, as Bencic flings a return of serve long.

The hold follows.

Early break by Swiatek!

*Swiatek 2-0 Bencic

At 15-15, Swiatek puts away a high volley at the net, but all eyes are on Bencic, who has fallen on the other end of the net.

She’s up and seems okay; the fall appeared to occur when her feet almost stopped underneath her as she chased a shot.

Now Swiatek nets a backhand, and it’s 30-30.

The Pole battles to earn a break point, however, before dialling up the pressure and slapping home a forehand at the net!

Early break...

Swiatek is on course for a perfect hold, to love, in the opening game – until Bencic swats a forehand winner into the corner. 40-15.

REPORT: Aryna Sabalenka, fainting fans, and a fall at a familiar hurdle

16:40

Alex Pattle on Centre Court

It was a stop-start first set on Centre Court, but when it settled, Aryna Sabalenka will have been somewhat startled to be down 6-4. During two breaks in play, there she was to help two fans who had fainted, providing water and support. Perhaps she needed a bit of support in return.

The world No 1 is no stranger to the semi-finals of Wimbledon, and she is no stranger to Amanda Anisimova. This was Sabalenka’s third appearance at this stage in SW19, and her eighth clash with the American across the net.

Regardless of Wednesday’s result, she was always going to leave with losing records in both cases: she was already 0-2 in the All England Club semi-finals, and 3-5 against Anisimova. Yet neither of those losing records would have bothered her had they read 1-2 and 4-5, courtesy of a victory that never came on this day.

“I’m sure I’ll get a glimpse of it [the next semi-final], it will be an incredible match. I was trying to rest as much as possible, I think it’s still relatively early so I’ll make some time for my family.”

Amanda Anisimova:

16:26

“If you told me I’d be in the final of Wimbledon, I would not have believed you.

“It’s been a year turnaround since coming back.

“To be in the final is just indescribable, honestly.”

“It doesn’t feel right now, honestly. Aryna is such a tough competitor, I was dying out there. She’s an inspiration to me and so many other people.

“We’ve had so many tough battles, to come out on top today is so incredibly special. The atmosphere was incredible today - I know she’s No 1 but a lot of people were cheering for me!

“I have my beautiful family over there, my sister, nephew and brother-in-law. My amazing team, what a journey it’s been in the last two weeks.”

Sabalenka 4-6, 6-4, 4-6 Anisimova

Anisimova is in the Wimbledon final - and what a shot to do it!

Sabalenka screams at herself after an early error before Anisimova pulls out the drop shot to perfection.

0-30. Sabalenka goes long on the backhand and it’s THREE MATCH POINTS!

Anisimova goes long on return on the first, and does so again after a lengthy rally on the second, but hits a forehand winner into the crosscourt corner to win it!

She puts her hands to her mouth - she can’t believe it!

*Sabalenka 4-6, 6-4, 4-5 Anisimova

Can you believe it? A match point comes and goes for Anisimova in another titanic game!

Anisimova goes long on her forehand at 15-15 to leave the door open for Sabalenka, who chips her return long.

30-30. A lengthy rally... and Anisimova goes long on the backhand! Break point Sabalenka, she nets the return.

Anisimova brings up her first match point - but goes wide on the backhand!

But then Sabalenka thumps away a smash for break point, with the American hitting long on the backhand.

We’re back on serve...

Sabalenka serves to stay in the match

,

Flo Clifford

How are the top seed’s nerves?

Two big serves get her to 30-0.

Anisimova is in control of the next point but her drop shot, on the far side of the court, lands just wide!

And another error by the American to seal a love hold. Crunch time.

Sabalenka 4-6, 6-4, 3-5 Anisimova*

Anisimova holds

16:01

,

Flo Clifford

Anisimova starts with a double fault. You can feel the stress both players are feeling.

Better as she dictates from the baseline and sends a forehand beyond Sabalenka’s reach.

An error lets the top seed in at 15-30... and she shrieks in frustration as she hits the net. 30-30, and Merton Council might be getting some noise complaints here.

Brilliant from Anisimova as she plays two delightful volleys, Sabalenka struggling to stay with her, and fires down an overhead for game point... and she gets lucky with a net cord. She doesn’t apologise for it, either, which Sabalenka seems unhappy about, and fair enough.

*Sabalenka 4-6, 6-4, 2-5 Anisimova

Sabalenka digs deep to hold

15:58

,

Flo Clifford

Another big serve out wide goes into the net.

You could cut the tension in here with a knife. Not even a particularly sharp one either.

Sabalenka moves forward and seals a gutsy hold. Anisimova doesn’t look happy, but still has the break advantage.

Sabalenka 4-6, 6-4, 2-4 Anisimova*

Deuce again

15:57

,

Flo Clifford

What can Sabalenka do now? She wallops a backhand long to start.

Anisimova does well to soak up the pressure and thumps a fine forehand just inside the baseline. 0-30.

Better from Sabalenka as she moves forward and whacks a smash into the open court.

A big serve is sent into the net and she’s nearly out of danger at 30-30... and Anisimova really should kill this point off, letting Sabalenka back in after some fine volleying, with the top seed sending a drop shot back over. She thinks she’s won it,but it’s narrowly wide!

The break point is saved as Anisimova, at full stretch, hits into the net. Deuce.

Anisimova wins mammoth service game

15:51

A ludicrously brilliant point which both players will think they should have won, multiple times over. Sabalenka gets to a drop shot and volleys over at a sharp angle, but Anisimova runs onto it and somehow gets the ball to curve just enough to clip the line.

But a forehand goes wide and we’re back to deuce.

Now Anisimova catches Sabalenka off-balance and thumps the ball straight back past her into the corner! Another chance for a 4-1 lead in this decider... and she takes it with another sublime cross-court forehand!

Sabalenka 4-6, 6-4, 1-4 Anisimova*

Pressure on serve

15:49

Three breaks of serve in this set, and Sabalenka puts some more pressure on the Anisimova serve at 0-30 as the 23-year-old hits wide.

But the Belarusian gets tight and hits a forehand into the tape.

A brilliant cross-court winner brings up two break points at 15-40.

The first goes begging as Sabalenka thumps a second serve into the net. Nerves?

And Anisimova forces the error from the Belarusian again for deuce.

15:44

A double fault isn’t how Sabalenka would like to start this game, but she follows up with a hefty serve down the T that Anisimova can’t keep in play.

The American does brilliantly to get a wide serve back over the net and Sabalenka goes long for 15-30.

She can’t buy a first serve at the moment but puts some extra kick on a second that Anisimova sends long.

Some extra shrieking from Sabalenka as she finds an exquisite sharp angle on a forehand cross-court.

And a matching shriek from Anisimova as Sabalenka punts into the net for deuce.

Into the net again and the American has a chance to break...

*Sabalenka 4-6, 6-4, 1-2 Anisimova

Anisimova holds serve

15:38

Anisimova moves to 30-0 but then sprays a backhand wide, into the tramlines. 30-15.

A much better backhand now... but it’s from Sabalenka – a cross-court winner, which she follows with a roar! 30-30.

Anisimova with her own backhand winner! Back-and-forth game, 40-30.

Anisimova then holds as a Sabalenka forehand hits the tape and falls on the wrong side of the net (as far as the Belarusian is concerned).

Majestic from Anisimova, who goes down swinging. That forehand erases set point for Sabalenka.

The kick-serve saves a third set point on her save, this time Sabalenka’s backhand is too long.

Wow! What a backhand on the run, it passes Animisova, whose backhand smash was majestic, but just not enough. A fourth break and set point... NO! She fetches one from deep by her ankles but the backhand is too heavy. What a grind, the point of the match and now this might be the game of the match.

What do we have here? Sabalenka double faults to give Anisimova a 0-30 lead and a look at a break...

The world No 1 then faults again and throws up her hands in frustration. Anisimova attacks the second serve... but meets the tape. 15-30.

Lots of power on display now, yet in one of the longer rallies of the match so far. After Sabalenka slows the pace with a forehand slice, Anisimova crashes a backhand winner cross-court!

With that, it’s 15-40 – two break points. Loudest cheer of the day, too.

One break point saved! Anisimova strikes a return of serve into the net. “Come on, Sabalenka, you’ve got this!” shouts one fan.

Now Sabalenka punches a forehand long, and another break point goes begging.
