It’s day four of Wimbledon 2025 and it’s another packed schedule ahead with Novak Djokovic, Iga Swiatek, Jack Draper and Jannik Sinner all in action.
Djokovic takes on Britain’s Dan Evans on Centre Court, while Evans’ young British teammate Jack Pinnington Jones is in action first up on Court 18 against the 22nd seed Flavio Cobolli of Italy. Draper will face Croatian veteran Marin Cilic last on No 1 Court.
Yesterday saw impressive wins by Emma Raducanu and Sonay Kartal in the second round of the ladies’ draw, although their fellow Briton Katie Boulter bowed out. Raducanu will play the world No 1 Aryna Sabalenka in a highly anticipated contest on Friday.
On the men’s side, Cameron Norrie knocked out 12th seed Frances Tiafoe to book his spot in the third round, while Carlos Alcaraz saw off the spirited efforts of British qualifier Ollie Tarvet.

Djokovic takes his own serve game easily enough – could this become a pattern as we go on?
Not a great start for Evans on his service game as he double faults twice in a row. Could that be the opening Djokovic was sniffing for?
The sixth seed forces Evans into an error on the return to move to 40-0 up, though he fires long to give the Englishman a route back in.
Evans follows that up with a great – if slightly accidental – volley at the net, and he saves deuce as Djokovic returns to the net!
And now Evans rifles in an ace! Remarkable!
Can he hold? He can!
De Minaur advances with fourth-set bagel

Alex de Minaur books his spot in the third round!
The Aussie, seeded 11th, sees off Arthur Cazaux: 4-6, 6-2, 6-4, 6-0.

Break point for Djokovic after Evans slices wide, but the Serb can’t capitalise.
We head for the fourth deuce but Djokovic takes the advantage again as Evans slices wide on a golden chance at the net – before the sixth seed fires long with a return!
Djokovic can’t return the serve on the fourth break point, and remarkably we’re at a fifth deuce of the second third game!
But Evans closes it out brilliantly, with Djokovic hitting the net on deuce before Evans approaches the net and catches him out with a slice.

A nice volley to start for Evans, and after a decent rally he smashes home another down the middle for 30-15.
A couple of nice slices almost catch out Djokovic, but the Serb answers brilliantly with a lovely cross-court forehand.
No worries for Evans as he lashes in an ace, but the Serb works him around the court for deuce with another lovely forehand.
Evans wins advantage courtesy of a brilliantly placed serve, but he can only find the net on the next point.
Pretty entertaining so far, and only three games in!

Centre Court is packed out for this one, and the crowd is so up for it.
Evans can be a divisive figure, prickly towards himself and others at times (as I type this, he appears to glare at someone in the crowd before he takes his first serve), but the fans are fully behind him.
The noise is carrying as if the roof were closed.
Djokovic 2-1 Evans*
13:47
Another ace to wrap up a game! Djokovic takes the next one dropping just one point, and we have the first quick water break of the match.

In the men’s singles draw, 25th seed Felix Auger-Aliassime and Jan-Lennard Struff have resumed their second-round tie, after they couldn’t beat yesterday’s curfew. They resume at one set all.
Also, 11th seed Alex de Minaur is two sets to one up against Arthur Cazaux, and he leads by a break in set four.
In the women’s singles, 10th seed Emma Navarro has beaten Veronika Kudermetova while conceding just three games in two sets.
And seventh seed Mirra Andreeva leads Lucia Bronzetti by a set to love.

In the end just a stretch too far for Jack Pinnington Jones, who exits at round two in his first ever Grand Slam. The 22-year-old will have plenty more opportunities though.
For Flavio Cobolli, a really promising performance on Court 18. He powered into a commanding lead and had the quality when it mattered just as it looked like Pinnington Jones could get back into it.

Much better from the Englishman in his serve game, firing a forehand winner to wrap it up.
But it’s more of the same from Cobolli too, with a couple of clever shots helping him into a commanding lead before he gives up two points, the latter following a smart effort from Pinnington Jones at the net.
However, the Italian closes it out and we move to 4-2.

No matter though, as he finds two points before we head to deuce.
Remarkably, he hands Pinnington Jones the advantage with a double fault, but he gets lucky as the Englishman fires a return into the net.

Away from Court 18, there’s a few other tasty match-ups underway.
On Court 2, the11th seed Alex de Minaur - otherwise known as Mr Katie Boulter - has lost the first set 6-4 to French qualifier Arthur Cazaux and they’re on serve early in the second but things are going better for women’s 10th seed Emma Navarro who is on the brink of beating Veronika Kudermetova as she leads 6-1, 5-0.
Jamie Murray and men’s doubles partner Rajeev Ram meanwhile have just completed an epic first-set tiebreak Portugal’s Francisco Cabral and Austria’s Lucas Miedler but the British-American pair lost it 12-10.

“It hasn't sunk in just yet. It's very rare that you get to play in your own backyard and for that to be Wimbledon is special.

Dan Evans takes unbeaten record in to Novak Djokovic clash

Dan Evans kicks off the action on Centre Court in some style - with a second career meeting with Novak Djokovic.
Evans, 35, won that previous meeting - on the clay at the 2021 Monte Carlo Masters - so is putting an unbeaten record on the line against the 38-year-old seven-time Wimbledon champion.
"I think when they do the stats, it has to be over, like, three matches to have a 100 per cent record," Evans said. "So we'll say I have a decent record!
“This is his best surface. It's going to be a tough match. But when I play the top guys, I don't change much about myself. It's not about them, it's about me. We're both competing for the same goal.”

The Croatian reached the final back in 2017, three years after winning the US Open, and has struggled with a knee problem in recent seasons.
But he is now fit again and won the warm-up event in Nottingham.
Draper said: "Unbelievable career, amazing player. Anyone who wins a Challenger on the grass before coming here, they're feeling good on the grass. So it's going to be a really tough challenge. I'm ready for that."

Aryna Sabalenka the last top-five seed standing after shock Jasmine Paolini exit

While the Brits are still largely going strong, the same can’t be said for the top women’s seeds...
Four of the top five have crashed out with French Open champion Coco Gauff, world number three Jessica Pegula and Olympic gold medallist Qinwen Zheng all exiting at the first-round stage on Tuesday.
Fourth seed, and last year’s runner-up, Jasmine Paolini joined them on Wednesday as she lost 4-6 6-4 6-4 to Russian world No 80 Kamilla Rakhimova.
The notable exception? Top seed Aryna Sabalenka whose odds to win a first Wimbledon title are shortening by the day. She avoided an upset yesterday thanks to a close-fought 7-6 (4) 6-4 victory over Czech world No 48 Marie Bouzkova in a big-hitting battle on Centre Court.

Tarvet reflects on 'most special day'
09:23
,
Luke Baker
Afterwards, Tarvet admitted the experience was the most special day of his life.
“It’s not every day that you get to play against maybe the best player in the world,” said the right-hander from St Albans.
“So yeah, it was really important for me going into the match to enjoy it, enjoy the opportunity.
“I think I did a pretty good job of kind of enjoying the moment and trying to also play some good tennis at the same time.
“I kind of knew that the first set might be difficult because it’s not a stage that I’m used to. Even though the first set scoreline was 6-1, I still had break points in three games. I definitely had chances. I think that should give me confidence that I was competing.
“Credit to him, he plays the big points just incredibly well. That’s the difference. You kind of feel like you’re in the set, you lose it 6-1, it’s tough.
“But yeah, even though it was not the result that I wanted today, it was definitely the most special day of my life.”

Oliver Tarvet’s Wimbledon battle with Carlos Alcaraz flies flag for US college route to tennis
09:09
,
Lawrence Ostlere on Centre Court
Play the ball, not the player, said Ollie Tarvet before the biggest match of his life against reigning Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz. The flaw was that the ball came at the world No 733 faster than ever before, with more topspin revs and at a more devilish angle.
It was still the same sport as his wins on the US college scene in front of a few dozen spectators. And yet this was almost another game entirely, like how laying cheese on bread under the grill is, only technically, cooking.
Alcaraz’s 6-1, 6-4, 6-4 victory came in two parts. The first set felt like a regular muggle playing tennis against the world No 2 on Centre Court. Never before had Tarvet faced a player who combines such extreme levels of speed and spin with unerring accuracy, such that Alcaraz’s groundstrokes rushed over the net before dipping into far-flung corners of the court, hitting 38 winners in all.
Yet the latter two sets of his victory were different. Tarvet’s eyes began to calibrate, adjusting to the flight of the ball in the same way players adjust from clay to grass. He broke serve in the second set, and again in the third as if to prove it was no fluke. How many Centre Court debutants wilt in the spotlight against great champions?
The 21-year-old blossomed in the afternoon sunshine, fist-pumping his way around the court, each point a little confirmation of what he already suspected: that he could cope out here.

Katie Boulter worried her Wimbledon moment may never come
08:43
,
Luke Baker
Yesterday was a bad day for British women’s No 2 Katie Boulter who suffered a shock 6-7 (7) 6-2 6-1 defeat to little-known Argentinian rookie Solana Sierra in the second round.
Boulter had impressively downed ninth seed Paula Badosa in round one but having never advanced beyond the third round of a grand slam, she fears her Wimbledon moment may never come.
“Of course it hurts, it’s a really tough pill to swallow – it always is here,” said Boulter.
“Unfortunately it’s just the way that it is. Sometimes I just have to accept that my moment might not come at some point.
“I’m just going to keep working hard and keep trying my hardest. Ultimately that’s all I can do and keep putting myself out there and keep improving every single year.
“You can look at a piece of paper and be like, ‘oh, this is a terrible loss’. Ultimately, she played better than me on the day. That’s how it is.”
