We’re into the second week of Wimbledon 2025, as the fourth round continues and sees major names take to the grass.
The first players out on Centre Court on Monday were Novak Djokovic, who continues his bid for a record-equalling eighth title in SW19, and Alex de Minaur, with Jannik Sinner and Iga Swiatek set to be in action later.
Djokovic saw off 11th seed Alex de Minaur in four sets, losing the first in short order in a shocking episode, before fighting back to eliminate the Aussie. Djokovic, 38, also played down injury concerns despite clutching his stomach throughout, having suffered a stomach issue in round one.
Sinner will take to the same court to play Grigor Dimitrov, while Swiatek – like Sinner – continues to pursue a first Wimbledon title, but on No 1 Court. Five-time major winner Swiatek plays Denmark’s Clara Tauson, who has already knocked out British hope Heather Watson and former champ Elena Rybakina.

Well, well. For the first time these Championships, Jannik Sinner loses his serve! Grigor Dimitrov takes the opening break and there are some signs that the top seed is not moving too comfortably in these very early stages. A good start for Dimitrov.

Shelton is asked about his dad, Bryan Shelton, who made the fourth round in 1994.

Djokovic addresses apparent stomach issue

Alex Pattle
“No, no, no. It was all good, just trying got manage sometimes the breathing after 30+ shot rallies.
“You need a breather, and you don’t have much time, so maybe that was the case.”
Djokovic also jokes about “breaking that curse” of losing when Roger Federer watches him.
Djokovic reflects on hard-fought win
17:02
,
Alex Pattle
Djokovic: “I don’t know [how I feel] to be honest, I’m still trying to process the whole match.
“It wasn’t a great start for me, he broke my serve three times in the first set. Very windy, very swirly conditions on court.
“He was just managing better, I guess, the play from the back of the court. I didn’t have many solutions to be honest, but I kind of reset myself in the second.
“It was a tough game to close out the second set, I think that was maybe a momentum shift. I felt like maybe I was back in the game.
“It was a bit of cat-and-mouse play, he’s so good at it. He’s one of the quickest players – if not the quickest player – on the tour.
“He exposes all your weaknesses, I was just very pleased to hang in tough in the right moments and win this one.”

What a battle, and immense credit must go to De Minaur, but Djokovic comes through in four sets.
He was clutching his stomach a lot between points, having struggled with an issue in round one. Will that affect him in the quarter-finals?
Either way, he did well to overcome it today.

Then, Djokovic won a phenomenal point to break back for 3-4! He broke again for a 5-4 lead, and is on the cusp of the quarter-finals as a result...

Djokovic with a handy hold to love. You always feel better poised to break an opponent’s serve off the back of a love hold.
And although De Minaur moves from 15-15 to 40-15, Djokovic pulls back a point with a wonderful forehand winner up the line. He opens up his body after a cross-court effort on the previous shot. Great form.
40-30, then, but De Minaur pumps his fist after sealing the hold!

Wow, wow – an amazing point to start the second set. De Minaur unleashes some ruthless groundstrokes that fizz low over the net and takes the chance to step in behind them, but Djokovic keeps the rally alive before whipping a cross-court forehand winner on the stretch. ‘Wimbledon is the pinnacle of the year’: Alfie Hewett and Gordon Reid target yet more success in SW19
10:50
,
Chris Wilson
An exclusive interview here from Flo Clifford:
While plenty of attention was on the likes of Jack Draper for glory at Wimbledon this year, Alfie Hewett and Gordon Reid are undoubtedly Britain’s best hopes of grand slam success. Between them, the pair hold 12 major wheelchair singles titles, and their doubles partnership is even more impressive: Reid holds the outright record for wheelchair doubles slams at 27 – and 23 of those have come with Hewett.
The tour’s highest-ranked doubles team kicked off the year with the Australian Open title and backed that up last month by lifting the trophy at Roland Garros, their sixth straight French Open crown and eighth consecutive grand slam victory. The pair first competed together in 2016 and are among the longest-serving teams on the tour, but are still finding ways to innovate and keep their opponents guessing, Hewett tells The Independent ahead of Wimbledon.

What is electronic line calling (ELC)? Wimbledon’s new Hawk-Eye Live system explained
10:40
,
Chris Wilson
Electronic line calling (ELC) technology is being implemented at Wimbledon for the 2025 Championships, bringing to an end the role of the line judge after 147 years patrolling the courts in SW19.
The tournament venue has taken the decision to install ELC on all 18 match courts, including Centre Court and Court One.
Find out everything you need to know about the technology below:

Electronic line calling at Wimbledon is an unnecessary disaster of their own making
10:30
,
Chris Wilson
It’s been 44 years since electronic music innovators Kraftwerk released the mournful, melodic, moving masterpiece “Computer Love”. And if that seems like a strange place to start an article on Wimbledon, let’s not forget there’s currently no love for the computer judging line calls in SW19, a system replacing a craft that did work.
The introduction of electronic line calling (ELC) at this year’s Wimbledon, a technology already used elsewhere on the tour, was always going to be controversial. The Championships at the All England Club are a tournament steeped in tradition, positively drenched in it – from the customary white attire adorned by players, to the men’s and women’s title winners dancing at the Champions’ Ball, to revellers relaxing on Henman Hill and enjoying Pimm’s, strawberries and cream.
