It’s day three at Wimbledon 2025 and a packed day is almost done, with a raft of British players in action including Emma Raducanu and Katie Boulter, as well as Carlos Alcaraz, Naomi Osaka and a host of other big names.
The first Brit on court today was Sonay Kartal, sweeping aside Bulgaria's Viktoriya Tomova in straight sets, though Billy Harris was beaten by Portuguese No 1 Nuno Borges. British qualifier Oliver Tarvet also exited, showing heart in a loss to defending champion Alcaraz in the match of his life, but Cameron Norrie advanced with an epic win over Frances Tiafoe on Court One. Raducanu, meanwhile, passed a huge test against former champion Marketa Vondrousova, downing the Czech in straight sets.
Yesterday Jack Draper cruised through to the second round, but Heather Watson and Jodie Burrage were early casualties among the home prospects. There were more dramatic exits in the women’s draw, however, when third seed Jessica Pegula and fifth seed Zheng Qinwen were eliminated, before French Open champion Coco Gauff lost to Dayana Yastremska in the final match on Court One.
The men’s No 3 seed Alexander Zverev suffered a shock defeat to France’s Arthur Rinderknech but top seed Jannik Sinner swept past Italian Luca Nardi. Seven-time champion Novak Djokovic saw off the stout challenge of Alexandre Muller to make his way into the next round, crediting “miracle pills” for his turnaround.

Fritz 3-6 6-3 7-6 (7-0) 1-2 Diallo*
Diallo needs to win this next set on Court 1 to keep his Wimbledon hopes alive - and he’s a break up on the World No 5!
He capitalises on a slip from the American to draw first blood in the fourth set, and has just saved a break point in the following game as he looks to back it up.

Oliver Tarvet admitted facing Carlos Alcaraz at Wimbledon was the “most special day of my life”.
Tarvet, ranked 733 in the world, completed a remarkable journey from total unknown to taking on the defending champion on Centre Court.
It might have seemed like some kind of fever dream to most of us, but the 21-year-old mixed it with the five-time grand slam winner before succumbing to a 6-1 6-4 6-4 defeat.
“It’s not every day that you get to play against maybe the best player in the world,” said the right-hander from St Albans. “So yeah, it was really important for me going into the match to enjoy it, enjoy the opportunity.”

Play has been suspended on Court 2 as Briton Arthur Fery finds himself two sets down to Luciano Darderi.
There were groans around the court but it’s maybe good news for Fery, with the pause in play giving him a chance to regroup and prepare for a fightback tomorrow.
Meanwhile, Taylor Fritz stormed to a 7-0 tiebreak win to take the third set against Gabriel Diallo, putting the score at 3-6 6-3 7-6 on Court 1.
In the only other singles match still going on, 26th-seed Alejandro Davidovich Fokina is a break up in the fourth set and looks set to see out victory against Botic van de Zandschulp, with the score currently 6-1 4-6 6-3 5-3.
Emma Raducanu offers Wimbledon a crucial reminder of what it should mean to support her

The last four years have been strange for Emma Raducanu. On one hand, she has long been trying to recapture the form of her breakthrough season, when she reached the fourth round at Wimbledon before sealing a stunning victory at the US Open. On the other hand, she has been trying to distance herself from that 2021 campaign, and the consensus among many in the tennis world is that the 22-year-old should not be held to those standards.
Yet it was difficult to put that captivating first appearance in SW19 out of the mind when, on Wednesday, the Briton stood across from Marketa Vondrousova in the second round – the same player she beat at the same stage, four years ago.
It was even harder to cast aside memories of that dizzying summer when Raducanu achieved the same result.
Alex Pattle reports from Wimbledon:

Norrie loving tennis after latest win

Lawrence Ostlere
Cameron Norrie is enjoying tennis more than ever after reaching the third round of Wimbledon with a tenacious victory against 12th seed Frances Tiafoe.
In doing so he booked a likely clash with Queen's finalist Jiri Lehecka in the third round, and looks set to enter that tie full of confidence.
"I played an unreal match," he said. "I think it was a very good performance from me.
"Mentally, as well - I was very stable throughout the whole match. I think if you spoke to Frances he would probably say the same.
"It was a very high-level match. He was playing so well but I never really flinched. I just kept doing what I was doing and made the match on my terms. I can take a lot of confidence from that."

I think if you give me a year, especially with the coaches that we have at USD, I think I’ll be in a much better spot.”

Another women’s top seed bites the dust!
We’ve had the likes of Coco Gauff, Jessica Pegula, Zheng Qinwen all crash out in the early stages of Wimbledon this year.
And now, World No 4 and last year’s Wimbledon runner-up Jasmine Paolini has herself suffered an early exit, losing to Kamilla Rakhimova 6-4 4-6 4-6 to leave things wide open in the women’s singles.
Three days and we’ve already had bucket-loads of drama. Long may it continue!

“I’ve played against really good players before but not quite the level of Alcaraz,” Tarvet said. “As soon as I dropped to 95% focus, I lost the game. When I missed the first serve, the guy’s on the baseline and it’s intimidating, he’s ready to make you run.”

Raducanu says "no pressure" against World No 1

Emma Raducanu jokes that there will be “no pressure” now that she’s playing the World No 1 in Aryna Sabalenka in her next match.
She said: “When you play an opponent like her you know you have to play well so I guess there is no pressure on me at all in the next round!"
Underdog she may be, but the likes of Coco Gauff, Jessica Pegula, Zheng Qinwen - and just now, Jasmine Paolini - are among the top seeds to have already crashed out of Wimbledon. Who says Sabalenka can’t be next?

“I knew playing Marketa was going to be an incredibly difficult match. She has won this tournament which is a huge achievement. I'm really pleased with how I played my game the whole way through.
“I knew today I had to be aggressive because if I pushed the ball around Vondrousova would beat me. Mark [Petchey] has helped me a lot, everyone in that box. The support was incredible and I felt it today. The atmosphere was electric.”

She nearly manages to return two massive smashes from Vondrousova, who looked like she had the point won.
Raducanu didn’t manage to undo the Czech with the moonball return on that occasion, but with the score at 40-30, she manages to do so on the next! She anticipates a seemingly unreturnable overhead from Vondrousova, returning deep into the court before firing a backhand into open space to force deuce.
Vondrousova gets the hold eventually, but she’s having to work so hard for it.

This is a great watch from Raducanu.
She fights back from 30-0 to go 30-40 up, producing a wonderful passing backhand to go within a point of double breaking.
Vondrousova responds to force deuce, but Raducanu gets a second break point with another passing effort that skids far beyond the reach of the Czech.
The Brit goes millimetres of the double break, with her shot landing just to the left of the tramline.
It’s a slice of luck Vondrousova will take and she manages to grind out a potentially crucial hold.

Raducanu gets herself in a jam as a long backhand gives Vondrousova two break points at 15-40.
In the first, Radders broke and was then broken back immediately. She makes inroads at preventing the same happens, putting the Czech on the defensive with a mammoth serve before she eventually nets.
She then forces deuce, with Vondrousova going wide in the tramlines with a backhand.
A huge cheer as she fires a passing shot cross-court to take the advantage, and she makes no mistake on the next point, gritting out an impressive hold.

Raducanu gets a shot an early break as she takes a 30-40 lead - but it goes awry, launching a backhand into the net on the run.
But at deuce, she keeps things alive. Two advantages come and go for Vondrousova before a wild effort clips the frame and gives Raducanu a second shot at break.
She’s unfortunate to see an effort clip the net cord and fall back onto her side of the court, but her fight doesn’t go. She makes her third break point count, wrong-footing Vondrousova to force her on the defensive before an awkward shot lands at the feet of the Czech, who is only able to return long.

Triple set point... but the first goes begging, as Raducanu spins an inside-out forehand wide.
Another gone! Raducanu, who is less tentative to approach the net now, moves in but is beaten by a great pass – right into the corner. 40-30.

Over the last few games, neither player has been convincing on serve. Vondrousova is already 0-30 down. But Raducanu clips the tape and won’t get the luck of the fall. 15-30.
Big shout from Raducanu, and applause from the crowd, as Vondrousova shoves a shot long. 15-40.
But the Czech saves the first break point with a tidy serve. 30-40. Another break point saved, with Vondrousova manoeuvring Raducanu around the court well. Deuce.
Double-fault! Another break point for the 22-year-old... saved! Ace down the T.

Raducanu can’t quite shuffle her feet into position as she tries a forehand now, and she nets again. 15-30.
Better from the Brit! She rips a backhand and rushes the net, where she slices a winner past Vondrousova – with help from the net cord, though the Czech looked beaten anyway. 30-30.
More fine net play from Raducanu, to the delight of the Centre Court crowd. She puts away a smash after chipping a forehand approach shot into the corner. 40-30.
But she propels a forehand long to find herself at deuce.
Really good baseline hitting from both players, who push the ball close to the baseline and tramline again and again. Eventually, Raducanu finds the chalk on a cross-court backhand, and Vondrousova can’t get it back.
Vondrousova then aims to move in on a forehand, but she whips it wide! Raducanu holds.
