WKA national tourney unfolds in Lapu Lapu City

MANILA, Philippines — The World Kickboxing and Karate Association (WKA) Philippines, in partnership with the Mactan Fighting League, will host the 2026 National Boxing, K-1 Kickboxing, Muaythai, and MMA Championships at the Vaño Beach Lapu Lapu City on May 31.

The one-day event features a packed card of elite combat sports, showcasing top talent in boxing, kickboxing, Muaythai and MMA from across the archipelago.

In the boxing main event, Hanz Quilaton of Angkol Boxing Gym will headline the card against an opponent to be determined. The co-main event features a 58kg clash between Kenneth Cyril Toledo of Lapu Lapu Striker and Vin Russell Dayondon of Rise & Grind Academy Boxing.

WKA Philippines President Ramil Serit emphasized the cultural and personal significance of the upcoming bouts for the competing athletes.

"Train with unwavering discipline and fight with purpose, because every step you take reflects the honor of WKA Philippines and the warrior spirit of our nation," Serit said. "True champions are built not just by victories, but by the courage to rise every time they fall."

The main card is bolstered by several high-stakes matchups, including a 78kg bout between Lyndon Pescador and Jeran Eleccion, and a 60kg face-off featuring Andrie Amerkhan against Renan Noblefranca.

The Muay Thai schedule is highlighted by a heavyweight 84kg contest between Jomel Yabo (Lapu Lapu Striker) and Al Lozanes (Studio 32), while the kickboxing roster features a technical 52kg battle between Rey John Dalmacio and Jem Jyd Ababon.

Founded in October 1976, the WKA is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. Over the decades, it has produced a stellar roster of world champions, including legends like Benny "The Jet" Urquidez and Bill "Superfoot" Wallace. Today, the WKA continues its legacy under the leadership of Dave Sawyer.
