WNBA fans are ripping the Indiana Fever after a long-serving reporter said his team credentials were revoked over his Caitlin Clark injury reporting.

The decision has created another controversy around a franchise already under constant attention. This time, the debate is not about Clark’s play, but about access, reporting and how the team handled questions around her availability.

The backlash grew because the issue started with a late injury update before a game. It has now turned into a bigger discussion about whether the Fever went too far.

Scott Agness says the Indiana Fever revoked access over Caitlin Clark injury report

In a recent Fieldhouse Files update, Scott Agness said the Fever informed him that his credentialed access had been revoked.

“Indiana Fever public relations informed me via email that my credentialed access to all team events had been revoked.

“They said it was due to ‘the spread of inaccurate and unsubstantiated information’ and cited my tweet about Caitlin Clark being ruled out 100 minutes before they defeated the Portland Fire on May 20,” Agness wrote.

He added, “Fever PR briefly spoke with me before the game to ask about the tweet and state that they believed it was false.

“However, there was no meeting or further conversation before the decision to revoke my credentialed access was communicated to me.”

Agness said his reporting was based on a trusted league source and centered on Clark being ruled out late with a back issue before Indiana’s May 20 win over Portland.

He also said the Fever took issue with the phrase “strategic management plan,” while he maintained that the report was meant to give context around Clark’s health, workload and the team’s cautious approach.

The reaction from fans was harsh, with many feeling the Fever made themselves look worse by punishing a reporter over a sourced update.

One fan wrote, “This is a terrible look.” Another went after the league more broadly, saying, “The WNBA is such a g__ d___ joke. What an embarrassment.”

A third fan hoped the decision would be undone, adding, “I hope they reverse it as it makes them look petty and unprofessional.” Others believed the team’s response said more than the original report, with one comment reading, “The truth hurt them and this is their reaction.”

The frustration also turned toward Fever leadership, as another fan said, “I can’t stand this organization and it’s horrible management.”

The Fever may believe they acted to protect accuracy, but the public reaction shows how badly the decision has landed.
