Shah Alam police have launched a manhunt following an alleged molestation case involving a young woman in a residential area of Setia Alam.

PETALING JAYA: Police are tracking down a man suspected of molesting a woman in her early 20s while she was walking home from work in Setia Alam last Tuesday.

Shah Alam district police chief Assistant Commissioner Sarudin Samah said a report regarding the incident was lodged by the victim at 9.06pm.

According to him, the incident took place at about 7.10pm when the woman was walking alone along a quiet road in a residential area.

He said the victim was allegedly approached from behind by an unidentified man.

“The suspect, who was dressed in a red shirt and black trousers, allegedly embraced the victim and covered her mouth,” he said in a statement on Wednesday.

Sarudin said the suspect also allegedly kissed and touched the victim inappropriately before fleeing the scene.

He added that no property was reported lost in the incident, but police are actively pursuing the suspect in the interest of public safety.

“The case is being investigated under Section 354 of the Penal Code. Members of the public with information related to the incident are urged to contact the investigating officer, Inspector Muhammad Zamri Abdul Rahman, at 011-1665 2402 or the nearest police station,” he said.
