
Kota Kinabalu: A 34-year-old woman was charged with living on the earnings from prostitution activity.
Carol Lam Siew Lean pleaded not guilty before Sessions Court Judge Elsie Primus, Friday. Lam is accused of committing the offence at 10.30am on March 16 at a room of a hotel in Beverly Hills Plaza, Jalan Bundusan here.
The offence under Section 372A (1) of the Penal Code provides for a jail term of up to 15 years and with whipping, and shall also be liable to a fine, on conviction.
The court fixed April 20 for pre-trial case management.
No bail was granted to Lam and she was ordered remanded further pending the disposal of the case.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Tham Pou Jin appeared for the prosecution while Lam was not represented.
In another case, a 30-year-old man was sentenced to five years’ jail and ordered to get a stroke of the cane for having a knife in public area without a permit.
Mohd Herman Emrah admitted to having the weapon at 2.15pm on Feb 20 this year in front of a mosque in Kg Landung Ayang, Kudat. The court ordered Mohd Herman to serve the jail sentence from the date of his arrest.
