A 23-year-old woman claims a scammer is using her MyKad details and identity to defraud victims, with two alleged victims turning up at her home

PETALING JAYA: A 23-year-old woman claims an unidentified individual has been impersonating her to scam people online, resulting in two alleged victims turning up at her home to confront her.

In a post on Threads, Nur Nadzmi Najihah Nasir alleged that the individual had used her full name and MyKad details to convince victims that she was behind the scams.

She said the personal information had also enabled the victims to trace her home address.

Nadzmi recounted that the first incident occurred during Hari Raya in 2023, when an unknown man contacted her after receiving a photograph of her MyKad.

Believing she was responsible for scamming him, the man allegedly used the address on the identity card to locate her and asked her neighbours to verify her identity.

She said she lodged a police report immediately but was told that little could be done.

Three years later, another man allegedly arrived at her home asking for her by name.

According to Nadzmi, the man initially suspected her of being the scammer but accepted her explanation after she showed him the police report lodged in 2023.

She said the man then advised her to file another report, explaining that the person he had been dealing with had sent him a photograph of her MyKad as “proof”.

Nadzmi said she lodged a second police report on the same day.

Nadzmi said she later came across a Threads post by another alleged victim who claimed that a scammer was using the same name, leaving her frustrated that the issue had apparently continued.

“I am not the only one affected. It is upsetting to see people around me are also mentally affected by this,” she said.

She alleged that the impersonator had created at least two TikTok accounts using variations of her name. One of the accounts reportedly has more than 15,000 followers and lists a Malaysian telephone number for “financial services”.

Nadzmi claimed she had repeatedly reported the accounts to TikTok and Facebook, providing copies of her police reports, but they remained active.

She said TikTok had responded that it reviewed one of the accounts and found no violation of its impersonation policy.

The incidents have left her fearful that another person may turn up at her doorstep and accuse her of being involved in a scam
