A woman has been arrested in Negeri Sembilan for allegedly eating and drinking openly during a live TikTok broadcast, an act deemed disrespectful to Ramadan.

SEREMBAN: A 27-year-old woman has been detained for allegedly disrespecting Islam during the holy month of Ramadan in a live TikTok broadcast.

The Negeri Sembilan Islamic Religious Affairs Department (JHEAINS) is investigating the incident, which occurred last Sunday.

Director Datuk Mohd Asri Abdullah said the woman was arrested in Kuala Pilah yesterday. She is being investigated under Section 50 of the Negeri Sembilan Syariah Criminal Enactment 1992 for allegedly insulting or bringing disrepute to Islam.

A review of the viral video found the woman was interacting with followers at about 6.45 pm. “During the live broadcast, the individual was seen openly eating and drinking,” Mohd Asri said in a statement.

He advised the public, especially Muslims, to be mindful of religious sensitivities. He urged them to uphold the sanctity of Ramadan by practising commendable conduct in line with Islamic teachings.

Mohd Asri added that JHEAINS remains committed to handling matters involving Muslims in an orderly and prudent manner. This commitment is in line with Islamic principles and existing laws.

A video circulating earlier on social media showed a woman allegedly drinking water during a live TikTok session.
