
A 60-year-old woman was killed when the two-wheeler, she was riding pillion, was hit by a car near the Sector 33-34 light point. The vehicle, bearing registration number CH01-GA-1246, was allegedly being driven rashly by a Punjab Police Head Constable.
The victim has been identified as Kuldeep Kaur, a resident of Sector 56. She was rushed to the Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, but doctors declared her dead on arrival.
The UT police have registered a case under Sections 281 and 106 of the BNS on a complaint filed by the victim’s husband, Balbir Singh. The accused, Kulwant Singh, is a resident of Khokhar village, Gurdaspur. He was arrested from the spot.
According to Balbir, the couple was returning home after paying obeisance at Baba Balak Nath Temple in Sector 29. When they reached the Sector 33-34 light point, the car allegedly driven rashly by the Punjab Police Head Constable hit the two-wheeler from behind. Kuldeep fell off the two-wheeler and was run over by the vehicle.
According to sources, numbers of the CH-01-GA series are specifically allotted to vehicles of police patrol and government officials. The police are investigating the matter.
