
A WOMAN drowned, and three others are reported missing following a collision between a fishing boat and a barge in Kemaman waters this morning, according to Bernama.
Kemaman district police chief Superintendent Hanyan Ramlan stated that the incident occurred approximately seven nautical miles, or 13 kilometres, from Kuala Kemaman at 6:30 am.
He reported that the fishing boat was carrying nine passengers, including a skipper, crew members, and tourists on a fishing trip.
“The passengers consisted of five men and four women, aged between 23 and 79, from Raub, Pahang, and Gombak, Selangor,” Hanyan said.
“The deceased is a woman, while the missing include two men and one woman. Three men and two women survived the incident.”
The collision caused the fishing boat to capsize and sink. Authorities are still searching for the barge involved in the incident, he added.
Superintendent Hanyan noted that the police are in the process of identifying the victims, and a search operation is currently underway for those still missing. – August 11, 2024.
