Alpana Sharma has been elected pradhan of Sarut gram panchayat in Baroh development block of Nagrota Bagwan in Kangra district for the seventh consecutive term. She defeated her opponent by a margin of 124 votes. Alpana had begun her political journey in 1995 when she won the election for the first time while contesting on a seat reserved for women. Since then, she had never looked back, consistently winning the elections on the back of the trust and confidence of the public. In 2005, she was elected panchayat pradhan unopposed.
Alpana, who had been winning elections continuously for the past 30 years, told The Tribune that her electoral success was the result of the love and blessings of people. She added that she had always worked honestly and with dedication for the development of Sarut panchayat and would keep prioritising public service in the future as well.
She said that though she had suffered a spinal fracture in an accident, she did not lose heart and remained actively involved in the panchayat-related work without interruption. It was because of her spirit of service that the people of Sarut panchayat had repeatedly placed their trust in her.
