
KOTA KINABALU: A 47-year-old woman was tentatively charged in the Magistrate’s Court here with drug trafficking.
No plea was recorded from Noemi Tajim after the charge was read to her before Magistrate Marilyn Kelvin.
Noemi was accused of trafficking 55.77gm of syabu on Aug 7, this year, at 4pm, in front of a house at Kg Tunoh, Jalan Datuk Peter Mojuntim, Penampang.
The charge under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, punishable under Section 39B(2) of the same Act, carries the death penalty or life imprisonment, with at least 12 strokes of the cane, on conviction.
The prosecution applied another mention date pending the chemist’s report and did not offer bail as the offence is non-bailable.
The court fixed Sept 11 for mention and ordered the accused to be further remanded.
In another case, a 29-year-old man was sentenced to 10 months’ jail for keeping a stolen property.
Jeremy Vun pleaded guilty to keeping a stolen Xiaomi vacuum cleaner belonging to Domaio, Karamunsing complex, on July 25, 2025, at a unit at Ashton condominium in Kolombong, at 11.27pm.
He was charged under Section 411 of the Penal Code, which provides for up to five years’ jail, or a fine, or both on conviction.
The court heard from the prosecution that the complainant lodged a police report on July 22, 2025, after merchandise from the Domaio outlet at Karamunsing complex was reported stolen.
The police who arrested Vun and during questioning, Vun led police to his residence, where the stolen property was kept.
