A 38-year-old woman was found dead at her residence in East Delhi’s West Vinod Nagar area on Thursday morning, the police said. She is suspected to have died by suicide, they said.
The woman was identified as Geeta Thakur, wife of Rakesh Kumar and a resident of West Vinod Nagar.
According to the police, a PCR call regarding the incident was received at the Mandawali police station at around 9.50 am.
Following the information, the SHO of the Mandawali police station, along with the investigating officer, police staff and crime and forensic teams, reached the spot and initiated proceedings.
During the inspection of the scene, the crime team examined the body and observed ligature marks on the woman’s neck. The police said the suspected ligature material, believed to be a dupatta, was seized from the spot and would be sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) for examination.
Cops said as per preliminary inquiry, her marriage was solemnised on October 1, 2025.
The body was shifted to mortuary for post-mortem. Statements of family members and other persons concerned were being recorded.
The cops said further legal proceedings were being carried out and all angles related to the case were being investigated.
