SEMPORNA: A local woman was arrested for allegedly selling smuggled cigarettes and reselling subsidised cooking oil during a raid at Kampung Simunul on Thursday.

The 22nd Battalion General Operations Force (GOF) Task Force, together with the Semporna Police Crime Investigation Division, carried out the operation following intelligence received.

Sabah GOF Deputy Commander ACP Ahmad Radzi said a search of the house uncovered various brands of cigarettes, several boxes of cooking oil, and a four-wheel-drive vehicle believed to have been used to transport the goods.

The total value of the seized items was estimated at RM173,865, and both the suspect and the confiscated items were handed over to the Semporna Police Headquarters for investigation under the Customs Act 1967 and the Control of Supplies Act 1961.

Ahmad Radzi said the operation reflected the GOF’s continued commitment to curb smuggling and the misuse of subsidised goods in the east coast area.
