Woman killed by falling pole at food court

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 22 - A woman died after being crushed by a fallen metal pole that was hit by a car at a food court in Bandar Mahkota Cheras early this morning.

Kajang district police chief ACP Naazron Abdul Yusof said that in the 1.15am incident, a vehicle driven by a 35-year-old man entered the food court dining area after the driver was believed to have pressed the accelerator pedal.

The driver then tried to drive his car out of the food court before the 47-year-old victim was believed to have run towards the vehicle to block or stop it.

"When the driver was turning the vehicle to exit the food court, the car collided with the pole, causing the pole to topple and crush the victim's head, resulting in death at the scene," he said in a statement today.

Naazron added that the injured car driver was taken to hospital for treatment before being detained to assist in the investigation under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. The suspect has no prior criminal record.

Members of the public who have information related to the incident are requested to contact Insp Mohd Raziman Rasid at 019-4565502 or the nearest police station to assist with the investigation.
