SANDAKAN: A 62-year-old woman was killed after being hit by an Isuzu D-Max vehicle on Jalan Batu Sapi, here, Saturday.
Sandakan District Police Chief ACP George Abd Rakman said the incident happened about 7.15pm when a 31-year-old local man was driving from the Bandar Sandakan centre toward Taman Mawar.
“Preliminary investigations found that the victim suddenly crossed the road from right to left as the vehicle was passing through the area. Due to the close distance, the driver was unable to brake in time and crashed into the victim on the right side of the road,” he said in a statement.
The impact threw the victim into the left lane, where she sustained severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The victim’s body was subsequently taken to the Duchess of Kent Hospital.
