A WOMAN pleaded guilty at the Sessions Court in Johor Bahru today to a charge of causing the death of her newborn baby girl last month.
The accused, Nuran Batrisya Jamaludin, 22, appeared calm as she nodded in understanding when making the plea after the charge was read out by an interpreter before Judge Mohd Zamir Suhaimee.
The unmarried woman was accused of causing the death of the baby girl by acting with the intention of causing bodily injury likely to result in death.
The act was allegedly committed in the car park area of Blok Rajawali, Flat Program Perumahan Rakyat (PPR) Melana Indah Phase 2, Taman Sutera Utama, between 11 am and 2.30 pm on May 20.
She was charged under Section 304 (a) of the Penal Code, which provides for a prison sentence of up to 30 years and a fine, if convicted.
Earlier, Deputy Public Prosecutor R Nevina did not offer any bail for the accused.
However, the accused, who is still single, applied for bail on the grounds that she is taking care of the twins of the deceased baby and has family responsibilities.
The court allowed the accused to be granted bail of RM20,000 with two local sureties, along with additional conditions that she must surrender her passport to the court, report to the nearest police station every month and prohibited from harassing witnesses.
The court set July 3 for the case to be mentioned again, documents to be submitted and sentencing. – June 3, 2026
