KULIM – A woman was arrested after allegedly throwing a rampage and smashing the rear windscreen and rear lights of a car using a knife in Taman Kemuning here on Monday.

In the incident around 10.30 pm, the suspect was believed to have approached a Perodua Myvi belonging to a 29-year-old man, which was parked on the road shoulder near a row of shops.

Kulim District police chief Superintendent Syamsul Sinring, said that during the incident, the vehicle owner was at a nearby burger stall.

According to him, the suspect was then believed to have smashed the large rear windscreen and rear lights of the vehicle using a vegetable knife held in both hands.

“The complainant had parked his vehicle on the road shoulder whilst buying a burger before the suspect arrived and damaged the rear windscreen and rear lights of the car,” he said on Tuesday.

Syamsul said there were public witnesses who saw the incident, in addition to video recordings taken using members of the public's mobile phones that circulated on social media.

He added Mobile Patrol Vehicle (MPV) officers from the Kulim district police headquarters (IPD) who received information subsequently arrived at the location and arrested the suspect for further action.

“The suspect has a history of receiving psychiatric treatment at Kulim Hospital since 2012 and last received treatment in June.

“The suspect was then taken to Kulim Hospital with police assistance to receive treatment,” he said.

Syamsul added that the suspect was not remanded after her family members arrived and police granted bail before the woman was taken for treatment.
